William and Lorena Wallace WATKINS were my ggrandparents.
They are buried at the Markle Cemetery, Vigo Co. IN.
In the cemetery listing online 79 appears behind all of the Watkins enteries. Unsure what this means.
William Arnbold Watkins was born in 1772 and died in 1838.
He was married to Lorena WLLACE.
One son, William Wallace Watkins removed first to Missouri and then to Tehama Co., CA where he is buried.
Any information of this WATKINS family will greatly be received.
Where was Wm. Arnold Watkins born? (1772)
Was it in Vigo county or did he come to Vigo Co. to settle?

He was born March 11, 1856 in Ohio married Evaline Swincher in Coles County IL. in 1875 had children Malinda, William R., Hattie, Margaret, Nora, Jesse. There was a William R Stith married in Vigo Co. Indiana to a Stella Lowe on May 8, 1908..could this be the same William R.? Alonzo moves to Greene Co Ind. where he marries Eva M. Cookson in 1894 and they move to Vanderburg Co. Ind. and has Ollie and Hazel Stith. Ollie marries an Albert Hyde on May 13, 1918 in Clark Co. Ind. Then Alonzo marries a Alfretta in Vanderburg Co. Ind. and moves on to Jasper Co. IL. He is found in the 1910 census there, but the trail ends then..do not know where he died or where his wives died or about any of his children. Is anyone in Ind. related to these Stiths or know anything about the family? Diane
Anyone have Elisha Ray in their Ray family connections? Elisha was b. abt 1830 in IN and married Catherine Ware, b. abt. 1833. They married in Morgan Cnty, IN, and their daughter Emma married Herbert Gray.
My father was a member of the Masons in Terre Haute many years ago - I still
have his Masonic apron. He died in 1947 at age 43 in Wisconsin when I was
8 years old. I would love to know if it is possible, and how, to access any records
the Masons may have regarding him - Emil Everett Sims. Any help would be
very much appreciated!!! Kathryn Sims Martin

Samuel separated later from Cynthia and remarried. Story is that he moved to Philadelphia. I have no data on him after he moved from Vigo Co., Indiana around 1840 to 1850. (Can't find in 1850 census)
Anyone who wants a copy of my data on William RAY and his families send me an email and I will email back my working-papers on the RAY families. (about 100 pages)

I am seeking information on Samuel Ray (my great, great-grandfather). According to the 1870 Tipton County, TN, census, Samuel was 24 years old and born in Ireland. He is listed with his wife to be's family. He married Martha Jane Gray in 1870. This is the earliest record we have of Samuel Ray. The next time we find Samuel and Martha Jane Ray is in the 1900 census from Van Buren, ARK. Samuel lists himself as being born at sea and his parent’s place of birth as Pennsylvania. Martha Jane lists herself as have given birth to three children with only one currently alive. The child alive is my great-grandfather, Samuel Andrew Ray. Samuel Andrew married Mary JoHanna Gray in 1905. In the 1910 census, Martha Jane Ray is listed as living with her son and his wife and 2 children in MS. In 1920, Martha Jane Ray is listed as still living with her son and his wife and now 6 children (of which one of the original two has already passed away which would have made the total 7). Samue!
l Andrew went on to have two more children with his wife and eventually passed himself in 1929. In his newspaper obituary, only his wife and children are listed as survivors. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Please feel free to send me a direct email if you have any information or questions that will hopefully help me finish my search of my family.

I would like to get Philip Monninger's military records. My sister, Kathryn , will moving back to Ohio in 2 weeks and we will work on this after that. We ordered those of the Conover men . A Snedeker researcher sent me William Snedeker's. We did get more info from each that helped us piece the Conover line more clearly.

Message Board Post:
While searching the message boards, I came across an old
inquiry about Eleanor Shoemaker, b. 30 Oct 1825 in
Vigo County, Indiana. I have been unable to contact the poster, but I think we have a family connection!
Here's what I have:
My GGGGrandmother was Emit Shoemaker, b. 1821, Terre
Haute, Vigo County, Illinois; d. Aft. 1880, Mill
Creek, Davis County, Illinois. She married
Joseph H. Holroyd (b. 1821, Washington, DC; d. Aft.
1880, Mill Creek, Davis County, Illinois) on 10
May 1843 in Mt. Carroll, Carroll County, Illinois.
Emit's name appears in various records as Emit, Emmet,
Emerit and even Euceil, so I am not certain which is
her correct name. I believe that Eleanor and my
Emit are sisters.
I have two reasons to think so...the area of their
birth and the proximity of their birthdates; and also
I see that Eleanor named one of her children Milton.
This name appears a lot in this family line.
Children of Joseph Holroyd and Emit Shoemaker:
1) Jerome B. Holroyd, b. 1847, Illinois; d. UK,
Nebraska.
2) Milton Holroyd, b. 1849, Illinois; d. Bef. 1860.
3) Emeline Holroyd, b. 1850, Iowa; d. UK
4) Alvina Holroyd, b. 1852, Illinois, d. UK
5) Javella Holroyd, b. 1853, Illinois, d. UK
6) Homer Milton Holroyd, b. 1855, Clarno, Lancaster
County, Wisconsin; d. Abt. 1938, Detroit, Wayne
County, Michigan. Married to Ada Leona Andre. These
were my GGGrandparents.
7) Alice (Allace) C. Holroyd, b. 1857, Wisconsin; d.
UK
I believe that Eleanor and Emit's mother's maiden name
was Curry. I recently made contact with a Curry
family descendant, who has a will from one Calvin
Curry (b. 1797, Butler County, Ohio; d. 1881, Grant
County, Wisconsin) dated 1858, in which he mentions
"Emit Shoemaker, wife of Joseph Holroyd, who is his
niece." This is definitely my Emit and Joseph, as
they were living in Wisconsin at the time of this
will. This tells me that Emit's mother was the sister
of Calvin Curry, who married a man named Shoemaker.
Even more interesting, Calvin Curry named one of his
children Homer Milton Curry. Furthermore, Calvin's
brother, Elias, named one of his sons William
Shoemaker Curry. Clearly, these two families are
connected, and I believe it is through the mother of
Emit and Eleanor Shoemaker.
The Curry contact knew of only one sister of Calvin
Curry, a Mary Curry "who married a man named Clem." I
did some searching and found a marriage record for
Mary Curry (b. 1786-91, Butler County, Ohio; d. 12 Oct
1867, Vigo County, Indiana) and a George Klemm (b.
1782, Fort Valley, Shenendoah County, Virginia; d. 15
Feb 1835, Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana; buried
Hull Cemetery, Terre Haute) dated 14 Jan 1808 in
Butler County, Ohio. This certainly connects the
Curry family to Terre Haute, Indiana, where our
Shoemaker's were born. Clearly, Mary is not the
mother of Emit and Eleanor, so there must be other
sisters out there somewhere. We believe that Calvin,
Elias, John and Mary's father was William Curry
(possibly a Butler County preacher). I did find a
marriage record for a William Curry and Sarah Robson
dated 8 Jun 1776 in Alston (Ohio?).
To add to the mystery, on the US Census of 1850 I
found my Joseph Holroyd and Emit Shoemaker living in
Mill Creek, Davis County, Illinois (with the last name
misspelled as Hallroid). Living in the household are
children Jerome, Emeline and Milton (age 1), and a
William Shoemaker, age 17, born in Indiana. Emit is
24 years old on this record, and I believe that
William may be her (and Eleanor's) younger brother.
On all the census records which ask for a parental
birthplace, Emit lists her father as being from New
Jersey and her mother from Indiana.
The only record I've found which correlates with this
is a John Shoemaker (b. 1800, New Jersey; d. UK, prob.
Indiana) who married Elizabeth UNKNOWN (b. 1810,
Indiana; d. UK, prob. Indiana). The marriage date is
listed as about 1832, but I believe this is based on
the known first child's birthdate, rather than actual
record. It seems unusual to me that a couple would
wait until they were in their 30's to marry,
especially during the early 1800's, when people tended
to marry much younger. The children listed for this
marriage are:
1) William Shoemaker, b. 1833, Indiana; d. UK. This
birthdate matches the birthdate of the William Curry
living with Emit and Joseph in 1850.
2) Jane Shoemaker, b. 1833, Indiana; d. UK. Twin to
William?
3) Margaret Shoemaker, b. 14 Aug 1838, Stephenson
County, Illinois; d. 14 Jun 1885, near Aurelia,
Cherokee County, Illinois. Married to George
Washington Grigsby on 15 Sept 1853 in Mt. Carroll,
Carroll County, Illinois. (Same place where my Emit
Shoemaker was married ten years earlier!).
4) Sarah Shoemaker, b. 1842, Indiana; d. UK
I wouldn't be surprised if this couple had more
children between 1820 and 1833 who don't appear in
this record, assuming they were actually married
earlier than estimated by this info. Could Elizabeth UNKNOWN be Elizabeth Curry? These could be
the parents of our Emit and Eleanor!
Does anyone have any info on these families? I'd
really appreciate any info you may have...let's
compare notes!

Haven't had alot of time for research. I did not order the films. I had gotten info emailed to me about Rowlett's Station. Philip Monninger was injured after 6 mo. in the Civil War.
Don't think there were any other Monninger men enlisted. Philip listed Wilhmenia Monninger. (His second wife-Not the mother, Aquilena b.1829 d. 1870, of Louis P. Monninger- b.1856 d.1912, marr. Isabelle Merry).

I am looking for anyone with information about a family, who is enumerated in Riley, Vigo County, Indiana in 1870. This would be Mathew/Matthew Dowdy, his wife, Nancy (Sanders) Dowdy and their young son, James Dowdy, who was age four years at the 1870 census.
I believe that Mathew/Matthew Dowdy may have died in that area and would be interested in any burial information on him.

It looks like Viola and William may have been the children of Jesse HISE and Mary Jane RUNYAN. After Jesse's death sometime between 1865-1870, Mary Jane married D.L. HUMPHREY on 25 Sep 1870 in Vermillion Co. IN.
But before her marriage, she was living with her parents, Jesse and Phebe RUNYAN in the 1870 census. Also with her are three children, Millard (9), Luetta (4) and William (3). As you know, Viola was living with the MORGAN family in 1870.
But in the 1880 census for D.L. HUPHREYS in Vermillion Co. IN, you will see Millard (18), Violey (16), Luetta (14) and Jesse (12). That same year, you will see Viola (17) and William J. (12) HICE also enumerated with the MORGAN family in Parke Co. IN.
Check it out, I think that is your family.
For those of you who don't know, the gentleman who signed next to last,
William Gottsehold, is the Tyler of the lodge (the person at the door
who lets only member enter). His last name isn't "Tyler".
