There are 2 lines of CARRS in IL, the German and the Irish.
Of the Germans there are also 2 lines, all originating from Henry CARR and Sarah Peterson of AUGUSTA/HAMPSHIRE/HARDY CO VA ca 1750 -. This is Petersburg area, though the county name changed 3 times from 1750 to 1800.
1st German CARRs to IL, and my bet this is where yours is from, came from 3 brothers, Joseph, Henry B. and Leonard, from HARDY VA to MONROE & ST.CLAIR CO IL ca 1798. Their kids spread all over IL and to MO and some to IN.
2nd German CARRs , 3rd VA generation came to JASPER CO IL
ca 1750. The two elder CARRS, Reuben and Jacob, were nephews
of the ST.CLAIR CARRS, but they came VA to OH, some to IN and some straight to IL.
Of this last line I'm am told one of my grandfathers brothers, Thomas may be his name, came to Terra Haute ca 1910-20 and married a TERRELL/TYREL woman.
The CARRS that came from LAWRENCE CO IN are of the Irish line.

Looking for CARRs in VIGO CO IN
GINNY 2 at ginnynumbertwo(a)yahoo.com
Does the court house have old wills, or were they all sent to the library?
I received a probate copy from 1864, it refers to the will with some names.
The Library doesn't seem to have a copy of the orginal.
How far back to wills go in Vigo Co?
Thank you
Barbara Johnson

I am looking for records of Capt. J. K. Milam, born 1833 in Tennessee, lived before the Civil War in Arkansas, Confederate Army (lost a leg), and after the war settled in Sulpher Springs to practice law. Listed as "county judge" 1884-85; 1900 US census had 6 children, oldest my grandmother, Nonie (or Nonnie), born 1878 (although no marriage information, presumably married Blanche R. (don't know maiden name) by 1877 latest. Buried in Sulpher Springs City Cemetary (died 1909).
Interested in more information on Capt. J. K. Milam -- but especially the maiden name of his wife (Blanche R. Milam), listed as "head of family" in US census of 1910 (husband having died in 1909), and who was living with daughter Nonnie Milam Hines (married Rev. M. P. Hines in Sulpher Springs 27 May, 1903) in Denton, Texas in 1920.

Private family services are scheduled later this month for Randall Vickery Frakes, who passed away Friday, December 9, about 5:00 a.m. Randall, age 87, was born August 10, 1918 in Terre Haute, Indiana. He was the child of Walter Alexander and Ethel Amy (Vickery) Frakes, and grew up in Terre Haute, where his father was employed at Hulman and Company, a bulk dry goods business.
For the past several years Randall was resident in Aptos, California. Prior to that he lived for 11 years in Roseville, California, and before that for 27 years in San Mateo, California. Randall enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1941, serving with the 60th Troop Carrier in North Africa, Sicily, and Italy during World War II. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant in 1945. Randall married his childhood sweetheart, Nina Belle Howlett, on Armistice Day, November 11, 1945. After the war he completed a bachelor’s degree from Indiana State College, Terre Haute; and a doctoral degree in Education and Health Services (EdD) from Columbia University, New York. In the 1950’s the family traveled throughout Southeast Asia while Randall was employed with the U.S. Foreign Service in South Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand. They settled back in the United States in Santa Cruz, California in 1961, where they lived for 2-½ years before moving to San !
Mateo, California. Randall’s proudest professional achievement was his 20-year tenure as Executive Director of the San Francisco Community Rehabilitation Services Workshop, administering a vocational rehabilitation program for the disabled.
Randall is remembered for his love of traditional jazz and pop standards from the 1920s and 30s. He sang in choir as a child, was a member of the barbershop quartet The Collegians while at Indiana State, and most recently sang with Santa Cruz jazz pianist Velzoe Brown during performances at Aegis Assisted Living. He is also remembered for his fondness for the wry wit of baseball pitcher Satchel Paige, who said, “Never look back because you don’t know who might be gaining on you.”
Randall was preceded into death by Nina, his wife of 56 years, in December, 2001. He is survived by three children, daughter Patricia Diane McEachern of Ferndale, Washington, son Larry Randall Frakes of Sacramento, California, and son Charles Edwin Frakes of Scotts Valley, California.
(This notice to appear in the Terre Haute Tribune, IN; San Francisco Chronicle, CA; San Mateo Times, CA; and Santa Cruz Sentinel, CA)

Gives you a link to the Vigo County Public Library's page where the transcriptions of tombstones are listed. If you do not hear otherwise as to directions, contact the library (812) 232-1113 and ask for Special Collections. The best time to call is daytime Monday - Friday, although staff are available evenings Monday -Thursday as well, also all day Saturday, and Sunday afternoon (no phone calls on Sunday). The library has a map of cemeteries a funeral home prepared years ago which may or may not help, and they often know directions to some of these cemeteries. It's possible a plat book would help as well, at least in terms of section, etc.

I am the administrator of Auman/Arman/Armon, Oermand, Ormand, and Orman
Family at familytreedna.com. I really need some help finding a man named AUMAN in
your area.
I am seeking a male descendent from either Elijah, Levi, or Peter AUMAN who
lived in Clay and Owen County, to submit a scraping for the Y chromosome. I
have a gift certificate which will pay for the test if I can find a gentleman
with the name AUMAN in Vigo, Clay or Owen County. It will only be valid until
Dec. 30, 2005. This group of Auman's came to the area by way of Tuscarawus
Co., OH before 1860. I think this group of Auman's may have been descended from
the Hessian Soldier who fought in the Revolutionary War against the Colonial
Army.
We have tested four Auman men, two from the Auman family in Centre and
Juniata, PA families. Two Orman's and two Auman's who are an exact match and can
trace their genealogy to Andrew AUMAN of Randolph and Moore Co., NC. We have
three others who have had their DNA tested. 2 Orman's have no matching markers
and one Orman who has a one step mutation from the Andrew Auman family. So
he is considered a match.
Thank you,
Mary Orman Gardner
