Sharon,
Thank you for responding. Thomas Merit Adams and Mary Elizabeth Biggs
are my husband's ggrandparents. I have considerable information on the
family, but I am always anxious to find more and to share what I have. We
(son, grandson, husband, and myself) recently made a trip to Mercer Co., KY,
and learned more. I would appreciate it if you find the name of the
researcher who gave you the information to send it to me or to send my name
and email address to her/him.

This is not my family. However, I do have them in a database that was
shared with me. The data is not mine, and I can probably find the name of
the researcher in my files. The Nevin, Adams, and Barnes families
(mentioned in your last post) also lived in southern Parke Co IN. There
are lots of descendants.

The Vigo site has some school pictures and enrollments, but I don't remember what years. They have some research help listed on the site. They might be able to help you.

Actually, I just found that the Vigo County Public Library also has
the Sycamore (yearbook) and apparently 1932 is a year they own.
However, it is housed in Archives, and can only be seen by appt. with the
Archivist. You could always call if you want to look at it and see if it is
possible. Some of the newer yearbooks are actually in the Special
Collections Dept. and can be easily found, but the oldest ones have been
moved to Archives. Perhaps they are in fragile condition. (812) 232-1113,
ask for Archives, call during the daytime, weekdays.
If you cannot reach them, try asking for Special Collections.
If you want to look this up in the library catalog, go to
www.vigo.lib.in.us
Click on "Search the catalog"
Type in "Sycamore" and click "Title"
You should get 7 "hits". The very last one that says "Sycamore" - 25 copies
available, is the one you are looking for.
Click on "Details" and it will show you the actual holdings.

I don't know specifically about college records. You would probably have to
contact Indiana State University (previously called Indiana State Teachers
College). Their web site is www.indstate.edu
I know that the college library has Sycamore yearbooks, because I looked at
some from the 1970's. Most likely they would have the older ones as well.
Perhaps you could find something that way. They are kept behind a desk, and
were in the process of being moved somewhere when I looked at them this past
year.
There is also an alumni directory. The Special Collections Dept. of the
Vigo County Public Library has one that is a few years old. The University
itself probably has even more recent ones, as well as older ones perhaps.
Whether someone that would have been there in 1932 is still alive is
questionable, but possible.
ISU has an alumni office, but I don't know what they have access to and what
they are allowed to give out.
I'm not sure what kind of information you are looking for, but perhaps this
will give you some leads.
Not everyone is in the yearbook. I know I wasn't, because at the time I
couldn't afford the pictures.

Sharon, If I was coming in from Evansville, IN, on North 41, would I change
these directions from left to right? Or just the one for turning off of 41
onto French Road? I want to print out these directions for the time I can do
some research in Vigo County?
Also since you handled this so well :-), do you have the directions to get to
Dickerson Cemetery? At one time someone sent me the directions, but I have
lost them. I do remember being told it was in the middle of a golf course.
TIA for your help,
Vicki Miller Billings
Hi
Could sks, please tell me how to get to Brown Cemetery in Pierson Twp?
I live in Florida and last time I was in Vigo County I tried to find it following the directions from "cemetery Records of Vigo County" with no luck !!
There was roadwork and the directions weren't clear enough for geographically impaired me.
I'm going to be back in Vigo County next week and I want to try to find it
again!
Thank you for any help you can give.

Does anyone have any stories or remembering hearing any about a Doctor Rowe that treated his patients for the flu during the epidemic and supposedly didn't loose anyone to the flu? Seeking any information on him or his family from Fontanet, Nevins Twp, Vigo Co. Indiana
I had this same thing happen. My grandmother was born in Vigo Co., but was adopted in another county. I went to the courthouse in Terre Haute, looked thru the birth records book and found her. It helped because I knew her birth name, since it was changed after she was adopted. They sent me to another office and I ordered a copy of her birth record. I had to pay for it and then they mailed it to me.
Hope this helps!

This is going to be a very confusing message. I will try to be brief and clear. My father's second wife was Thelma Houser. Her father was Joseph Houser. But my mother's mother was a Hooser (sometimes spelled Hoosier or Houser) I have several Williams in that family tree but not one that married a Fields. They came from Germany/France depending on what time it was. They settled first in NC around Stokes and Rowan Counties. There is tons of info out there on this line going clear back to Germany. I would be glad to share what I have but as I say I don't find a Fields. Randy Hooser has a Web page on the family. He is sort of the director of the research. You can find the site by doing a google search for Randy Hooser. Hope this has been of some help to you. If it turns out there is some connection with the Joseph Houser in IN I would love to hear from you.
