My great Uncle Warner Lowe attended school there. He taught in Riley Twp and
at the Pimento School that I am sure about. He also paid for Enola Smith to
attend, but she dropped out because she was pregnant with her first child. It
broke Warner's heart that his beautiful niece didn't get an education. That was
in 1909.

Hi once again.....what is the difference in the individual and the associate
membership? Once my divorce is final, I'm moving back to Evansville, IN. At
that time, my plan is to come to the meetings. I'd like to take an active
part in the Society once my move is completed.
It's only a two hour drive from Evansville to Terre Haute. Living here and
part of my Grandma's roots being in New Albany, I've made the trip several
times to do research at the library. It's a little over an hour and a half
between Winchester and New Albany. I don't think making the drive from Evansville
to Terre Haute will be that difficult. It will also give me time to do some
research in Terre Haute and area before the meeting. I can kill two birds with
one stone. lol

According to the chronological history, the Bill was passed to establish a Normal School in 1865; in 1866 Terre Haute was chosen as the site; 1869 William Albert Jones beame the first president. The first 21 students attended the first day of classes on Jan 6, 1870. The school became Indiana State Teachers College in 1929, Indiana State College on Jul 2, 1961 and Indiana State University in February 1965.

I've "rescued" an old photograph of G.S. RIDGELY which was taken at the H.T.
Biel Studio in Terre Haute, Indiana. The photograph was probably taken in
the 1880's with the subject likely in his 20's at the time it was taken.
The photograph was recovered in an album full of schoolmate photographs with
most from Terre Haute leading me to believe that they all attended school
there maybe at I.S.N.S. as is inscribed on one photograph.
I'm hoping to identify the young man in the photograph and see that it is
returned to the family.
If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please
contact me.
Thanks,
Shelley

Does anyone have information on any of the above? They would have graduated from high school in 1964.
Please contact me if any info at all.

It appears that Minor York and Lucy York were brother and sister. Does anyone know their parents? They probably migrated from Kentucky to Indiana between 1820-1822.

I've "rescued" an old photograph of Bell FARQUHAR REMSBERG which was taken
at the Holloway and Buckingham Studio in Terre Haute, Indiana. I would
guess that the photograph was taken in the 1890's and that Bell was about 30
years old at the time. The photograph was in an album of what appears to be
schoolmates with most taken at studios in Terre Haute, IN and one including
the inscription "I.S.N.S. Class of 1889".
I'm not sure if FARQUHAR is a middle name or a maiden name but either may

Hello everyone! I am still continuing my research on my McNabb ancestors
and have slowly tried tracing down various lines from a common ancestor
(Patrick McNabb) and have come to his daughter Mary McNabb who married
William A. Braden in 1890. I have found them in the census as such:
1910 Terre Haute
William A Braden, age 46, born Indiana, "roofing man"
Mary, age 42, born Indiana
Lillian, age 13, born Indiana
Eugene, age 10, born Indiana
Helen, age 7, born Indiana
Ethel McNabb, sister in law, age 26, born Indiana, clerk at dry goods store
1920 Terre Haute - 228 W. 5th
William A Braden, age 55 or 53, born Indiana, Store Manager at Braden ?
(can't read)
Mary, age 52, born Indiana, father born Ireland, mother born Indiana
Eugene, age 19, born Indiana, clerk
Helen, age 17, born Indiana
I can't get any further than that as Heritage Quest hasn't indexed 1930 yet.
I would be interested to find any information on this family - I would love
to contact descendants to see if they have any McNabb info to contribute or
family stories that they would be willing to share. I looked at
whitepages.com and only one Braden came up - Leeanne Braden (how funny), but
I called and spoke with her and she believes she isn't related to me. Any
help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated. I haven't found Eugene
Braden in the SSDI, maybe he was known by another name? Anyway, thanks for
your time and consideration. I hope everyone is doing well.

I think that there is a lot of interest in an active group being started.
Those of us who don't live in the area would certainly like to know how to join!
I love the idea of sharing the Vigo County documents and information that
many of us have!
Please be sure to let this group know how we can join and be a part of the
new group!
