Hello! A while ago I had posted a request for Bob's email while he was
working as a chaplain in Germany for the US Army. I thank those who had
given it to me, but it appears he is no longer using that email address.
Indeed it is a possibility that Bob is back from service as he was just
serving for one year (if I remember correctly) as a chaplain - it could've
been longer than a year ago since he went away. So, now I am interested in
finding out if anyone knows whereabouts he lived so I can try and look for
him at whitepages.com. I am sorry to have to send this request again.
Again I thank you for your time and consideration.
Again, Bob Francis did some work on the Kennedy/Wilson/Wigham/Jenkins lines
out of Vigo, Clay, Sullivan Cos in Indiana and the Wilson and Wigham lines
back into County Durham and Northumberland in England.

Is there any chance this is Lewis Stricker with his name misspelled in the 1870 index?

Greatgrandfather was in Vigo County from May or June of 1869. That is Lewis Stricker and wife Frances or Mary Frances. Can not find in 1870 census. There were two children born during this time. Maggie Stricker (Maybe Margaret) and Emma. Maggie was died in 1876. Emma was born 13 Mar 1868. Would appreciate any info that is forthcoming. Seems like this family would hide out while the census was being taken.
Thanks in advance.

Oddly enough, there appear to be two different William C. Knoles/Knowles marrying Martha M. and Elizabeth Crabb/Crabbe in Ohio.
The 1870 Census of Madison, Fayette County, Ohio, Page 18 has:
KNOLES, William, age 54, b. Ohio, Farmer
" , Martha M, age 32, b. Ohio, Keeping House
MINIX, Elizabeth, age 11, b. Ohio, at home
KNOLES, Sarah J., age 6, b. Ohio, at home
OLDHAM, Joseph, age 62 b. Virginia, Farm laborer
I believe this is the couple who were married in 23 Oct 1860 in Fayette County, Ohio and it matches up with Martha M. Crabb's birthday as being in the late 1830's.
The 1870 Census of Scott County, Illinois (Township 15 Range 12), Page 17:
KNOLES, William, age 35, b. Ohio, Farm laborer
" , Elizabeth, age 22, b. Ohio, Keeping house
" , Ally, age 3, b. Ohio
" , Walter, age 1/12, b. Illinois
This is William Carlisle Knowles and according to his obituary he married Elizabeth Crabbe on 24 May 1866 in Madison County, Ohio. Elizabeth was born in Pickaway County, Ohio on 30 Apr 1845 and she died in Piatt County, Illinois on 22 Sep 1912.

I do not have a birth, marriage or death date on William Edward Sorrell. I have been able to trace part of his life here in the states but not any of those dates. He was not an American citizen at birth. His marriage to Lucy Crabb was arount 1876. George Crabb Sorrell, son of Lucy Crabb and Willaim Edward Sorrell, was born January 18, 1877. Lucy and George lived for several years with her father Silas Blunt Crabb before marriage to William Cutshall August 25, 1880.

Hello all - I am new to this list, but not to genealogy.
I was wondering if anyone could tell me about Thomas Stewart that married a
Mary Souls Aug 30, 1838 in Vigo, IN. The reason I am interested is that I also
have a Stewart/Souls connection, however mine was in Cortland Co. NY.
Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Message Board Post:
I'm looking for any information on an Ebenezer Evans family, who I (after four years of searching) have finally traced to Vigo County. His daughter, Lottie, was living in Terre Haute when she married Alexander H. Rhodes on March 3, 1870, who was ordained as a minister in Sullivan, Indiana in 1869. I don't know whether they were married in Vigo County or Sullivan County. I searched all the online cemetery records in Vigo County and finally found an Ebenezer and a Mary buried in New Harmony Cemetery in Prairieton Twp. I do know that Lottie's mother's name was Mary. Ebenezer died March 17, 1847, according to the cemetery index. I also searched an 1840 census index I found online which listed an Eben Evans in Vigo County on page 773. Ebenezer and Mary also had a son, Henry, born in Ohio in 1835. Lottie was born ca. 1843. Henry's death certificate and obituary state that Ebenezer was born in Massachusetts and Mary was born in Ohio. If anyone can help me with a census recor!
d or perhaps the marriage record of Lottie, I'd really really appreciate it. Thanks, Sue

Carri,
The only Fitzsimmons in Vigo County in 1870 was a Charles, but he was 21:
Fitzsimons, Charles 21 Civil Engineer b. Ind
That's from the 1870 Census, M593-366, 1st Wd, Terre Haute, pg 393b, line 32
He's one of several living in a hotel. I also checked 1860, there were no Fitzsimmons in Vigo County then. Any idea what other county they may have been in?

I am looking for any information on Martha C. Sloniker. She was born in Grant County, Indiana to Jacob Benjamin Sloniker and Mary Elizabeth Hewitt. She married William E. Rutledge February 18, 1888 in Grant County, Indiana. Their son Lewis Benjamin Rutledge was my grandfather. On his marriage application of January 1918, to my grandmother Daisy Marie Haynes, it states his father was in Lima, Ohio and his mother was is Terre Haute, Indiana. I have no clue what happened to her. I can find no record of her in that time period in Terre Haute, under the name of Sloniker or Rutledge. I think she might have remarried, but have no clue what her new name might have been. I am hoping that somebody might recognized her and contact me.
