This information was found by a cousin in two of the family bible left to her. There was no location listed, though the family has been found in the 1840 Mercer County, IL Federal Census, with 1 male child. The family has 6 children listed in the bibles: Eliza J. Stanton, 12 April 1838; Marion D. Stanton (other family records indicate the D. stands for Decatur), 17 August 1839, Terre Haute, Vigo County, IN; Sarah J. (Jane) Stanton, 07 May 1841, Michael M. (Mortimer) Stanton, 10 February 1842; Timothy Stanton, 14 October 1845; Susan Stanton, 12 November 1846. Mary Stanton is on the 1850 Federal Census with Marion, Sarah and Michael. The bibles have a death date listed for Richard, 24 March 1848. There is no further mention of the other children. Descendants for Marion and Michael are known. Sarah married Washington Purkapile, 22 November 1866, Mercer County, Illinois. I haven't seen anything about her after the marriage record. Does anyone have any other information on the fa!

Buried veterans' records now available on Web
By Suzanne Gamboa
The Associated Press
WASHINGTON - Sally Naporlee turned to the Department of Veterans Affairs to find out more about her grandfather, who served during World War I.
After a few weeks wait for a response, Naporlee learned from the VA that Carmelo Castorina is buried at Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, N.Y. Unexpectedly, she also learned from VA that her grandmother is buried with him, a privilege extended to veterans' spouses.
VA has made it easier and faster for the public to get answers about family history, old war buddies or famous war heroes. The agency put on the Web 3.2 million records for veterans buried at 120 national cemeteries since the Civil War.
The VA's Nationwide Gravesite Locator, at http://www.cem.va.gov, also has records for some state veterans cemeteries and burials in Arlington National Cemetery since 1999.
Joe Nosari, VA's deputy chief information officer for Memorial Affairs, said the records used to be on paper and microfilm. Private companies have put some of the information online and charged for it, but the VA information is free, he said.
Naporlee, of Spokane, Wash., also learned her grandfather served with the Army's 161 DB unit, enlisting June 24, 1918. He was honorably discharged December 17, 1918.
The VA's gravesite navigator includes names, dates of birth and death, military service dates, service branch and rank if known, cemetery information and grave location in the cemetery. The VA will withhold some information, such as next of kin, for privacy purposes.
The site will be updated daily. Annually, about 80,000 veterans are buried at national cemeteries.
The VA also hopes to add records for veterans whose families requested grave markers from the VA. Those markers may go to private cemeteries or cemeteries overseas.

This message is to let listers know about a tombstone restoration workshop
that will be held on Saturday, May 22nd, from 9-3, at Mt Olivet Cemetery
south of the village of Catlin in Florida Twp, Parke Co IN.
Helen Wildermuth of Stonehugger Cemetery Restoration and Mark Davis of
Stonesaver Cemetery Restoration will be instructors for the on-site

techniques.
Directional signs will start on the southwest corner of the square in
Rockville. Mt Olivet is located on the Rockville-Rosedale Road (Market

The workshop is part of an on-going restoration at Mt Olivet
Cemetery, where 30 tombstones will be repaired during the last two weeks
in May. The Parke County Community Foundation provided the majority of the
funding for this project as a grant to reward volunteer efforts in the county.
Participants to this free workshop should bring sack lunches and
drinks. Bug spray and sun screen is advised. Questions?

Try contacting the Vigo County Public Library. Details are on their website at http://www.vigo.lib.in.us/. On the main page, click the Online Databases button, then the Wabash Valley Obituary Index button. The index does not cover the year you need, but there is a link titled Ordering and Photocopy Information where you might be able to order a copy. Your only problem is that you only have the month and year, not the day. They may want the full date before they are willing to look it up.
If you can't get it from them, send me an email. If I can find the time, I will see if I can find it for you.

Hi Cuz,
I have corresponded with Terry Towner for years. He is descended from Richard Towner. Terry's father just passed away, they were planning on going to a celebration in Homer next year. Anyway, I have a lot of info on the ones that settled in Homer that Terry sent me. What you might not have is that Phebe (Hicks) Towner had a second marriage after Elijah Jr. died. So I think the younger children went to Fountain Co. IN and were probably taken care of by her brother, George Hicks, Jr. who still lived in Fountain Co.
She is buried Newtown Cemetery, Newtown, Fountain, IN. She married James Sewell in Fountain Co. March 10, 1836. His daughter, Mary Sewell was married to George Hicks, Jr.
Now, on the Zorns info..Minerva's brother, Cyrus Zorns married Amanda Melvina Towner, sister to your George W. Towner. I suggest you contact Stuart Foote who has a lot of info on the Zorns family....vsfoote(a)texas.net
