I am descended from Elizabeth A. Maddox, b 10 Oct 1797 in Va. That is all I know. Elizabeth and her husband, Aaron Hawkins, lived Daviess Co., Ky. as did (for a while) Churchill and Baptist Maddox who went up into Vigo and Clay Cos IN. Churchill Maddox's first wife was Fanny Hawkins. I am searching for Maddox information on these people. Zerish is referred to as the "Cherokee lady" from TN. Elizabeth Maddox daughter is referred to in my records as a Cherokee. Any ideas are welcome. Elizabeth Maddox m Aaron Hawkins in TN. They lived in Anderson/Roane Cos TN prior to coming to Daviess Co KY ca 1717. Valentine, Church and Baptist are there until about 1823 when a group of people left and went up into IN. Matthew Hawkins, father of Aaron, "stopped on Honey Creek Prairie and died there". Garrett Hawkins stayed inVigo, for a while, and married the widow of John Witt, Ruth. Rhoda Hawkins who married Thompson Helms, went up into Fountain Co. Baptist and Church stayed around Vigo!
. Ca 1835, Matthew Maddox died in Fountain Co IN and his estate was owed $50.00 from Morgan Hawkins a brother of Aaron Hawkins who m Elizabeth Maddox. I believe all these people are related, but I don't know how. Thanks, Jeanne
Hi. I am brand new to the list and looking for one person. He is my great
great grandfather, WILLIAM ZULSDORF. He is listed in the 1870 census as living
in VIGO COUNTY. He is a painter living with PETER AND JOSEPHINE SLATTER. I
do not find him again until 1920, living with LILLIE AND AUGUST FELIX in
CINCINTATTI, OHIO. He and his parents were born in Germany. I do not find any
other ZULSDORF families areound Vigo. Any suggestions? Thank you very much,
Denise

Donna,
In nearby Parke Co, Peter Pence from Adams Co OH entered land in 1837. His
son Alexander was age 2, but he is listed as entering a tract next to his
father. There is no other Alexander Pence in his father's line. Alexander
bought more land when he was age 19. Some members of this Pence line moved
into Vigo County.

Hi List,
In about 1830 in Indiana, did a male person have to be of a certain age to have land bought in there name? I found at the BLM site where my ancestor and 2 of his brothers had land bought in all three of their names. Could it have been bought for them if they were very young? Does anyone have any ideas on this?
Thanks, Donna

If you have not been successful in your search, call Susan Davis of Indiana State University Archives (812+237-2613).. She is very helpful.
I did not read the message as carefully as I should. I was so anxious to find
a cousin that wrote and sent it pronto! I had a bed and breakfast for 10 yrs
and figure my address and name was all over the internet already.

Where oh where are my HAMILTON's hiding??!!

I absolutely agree with Jerry. If somebody wants to send a post that only
says "Thank you" then fine, there's no need to take up space. But, if there is
ANY information in there that could be of use to another researcher it should
go to the list. Whenever I see somebody say, "I have information on that
family, please e-mail me privately" I want to scream.

I resent e-mails to the list telling about fantastic maps available, etc.,
etc. and finding that the very last word is CD. This is nothing but an
andverstisement for a $60+ CD.

I would like to hear from any one who is researching either of these two
families in the Clay, Owen, and Vigo County areas. The DNA results are starting
to come in and I need to contact descendents of Levi or Noah AUMAN. I need an
AUMAN male to test their DNA. I am the Administrator of Orman, Ammon, Amon
Auman DNA group.

I agree too, but I don't think we should post our street addresses on here.
There is no way to know how that information might be used. Also, be sure
to sign your mail. Some of us store the messages and if we have no way except
an email address to identify the sender.
Mary G
I agree also.
But there are a lot of responses that should be sent privately as it is
apparent that there is a private conversation going on without any information that
the other list members would benefit from.

The Historic Atlas Series: 19th Century County Maps now has its own domain:
http://www.historic-atlas-series.com
The former URL located on the HAR web site will remain for a limited time; so please change your bookmarks to continue visiting these web pages.
The current web site includes 19th century maps and atlases from: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin. The state of Pennsylvania will be added in the next few weeks. Kentucky, Missouri and West Virginia are planned next year.
Individual county maps are useful for identifying 1874 transportation routes, railroads, canals, streams and rivers, cities, towns and villages, and early place names. One-room schools, churches, cemeteries and other cultural features are also included in the county maps.
The city and village plat maps in the Minnesota Atlas are often more detailed with many early property owners identified; industrial sites including a variety of stores, factories and mills; State and local government sites: cemeteries, churches, schools, fair grounds, race tracks, asylum & hospitals; and much more.
The high resolution digital map data is presented in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) and the Adobe Acrobat Reader is included on each CD.
