This book has no cover, and no index, and no author. I bought it on Ebay; it just has the insides, but it is full of Indiana biographies. I am not researching this family, just thought I would share. I do not know anymore about these families or these surnames. NOTE: I don’t know if there is any additional mention of this family in the book, it has no index. I do not want to sell this book. I am typing the biographies from it.
Typed by Lora Radiches:
Other surnames mentioned in the biography of CARL L. HEDGES are: Hedges, Griffin, Kemper, Shepherd
CARL L. HEDGES, manager of the Indiana Dairy Marketing Association, with executive headquarters in the City of Muncie, judicial and commercial center of Delaware County, was born on the parental home farm in Lipton Township, Vigo County, Indiana, near the City of Terre Haute, and the date of his nativity was January 31, 1884. He is a son of Abner and Emily (Griffin) Hedges, both like-wise natives of Vigo County, where they were reared and educated, where their marriage was solemnized and where they were representatives of sterling pioneer families. Abner Hedges became one of the substantial exponents of farm industry in his native county, and there his death occurred in 1888, when his son Carl L., of this review, was a child of four years. His widow survived him more than a quarter of a century, her death having occurred January 28, 1914, and the remains of both being interred in the Prairie Creek Cemetery of Vigo County, where rest likewise the mortal remains of Wilford Hed!
ges and his wife, parents of Abner. Abner Hedges was, as noted, a son of Wilford Hedges, the latter having come to Indiana from Shelby County, Kentucky, and having, as a pioneer, taken up Government land in Vigo County, where he did his part in civic and industrial progress and where he passed the remainder of his life. Wilford Hedges was a son of Charles Hedges, who was born in Virginia and whose father came from England and became a Colonial settler in the Old Dominion State, where he established his home about forty miles distant from Quantico. Abner Hedges and his wife were earnest members of the Baptist Church. Their only child is Carl L. Carl L. Hedges gained practical experience in connection with the activities of the old home farm in Vigo County in his boyhood, though he was a child at the time of his father’s death, as previously noted. His public-school education reached its maximum in his course in the high school at Pimento. He thereafter attended busine!
ss college in the City of Terre Haute, and after leaving that institution he there passed about two years in the employ of the American Hominy Company. During the ensuing ten years he gave his attention to the management of the old home farm on which he was born, and he then became associated with the Model Ice Cream Company of Terre Haute, in the capacity of sales manager and in charge of the purchasing of the requisite raw materials from farms. He was thus engaged four years, and he then, on the 1st of January, 1925, came to Muncie and assumed his present executive office, that of general manager of the Indiana Dairy Marketing Association. In addition to giving a distinctly progressive and productive administration of the affairs of this important organization he has served also since 1927 as general manager of the Indianapolis district of the Dairy Producers Exchange, besides which he further proves his versatility and resourcefulness by ha!
ving charge of the dairy department of the Indiana State Farm Bureau. Mr. Hedges is a Republican in political adherency, is a member of the Muncie Chamber of Commerce, the local Exchange Club and the Dynamo Club, and he is affiliated with the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. From pioneer ancestry in Virginia, Kentucky and Indiana Mr. Hedges may be said to have an inherited predilection for sports field, and he has become specially prominent and influential as an adept in fox hunting, for which ancient and glorious sport he maintains a fine kennel of Walker fox-hounds for the chase and has participated in many representative field meets. Mr. Hedges is not only a progressive business man but is also a loyal and public-spirited citizen who takes lively interest in all that concerns the welfare of his home city and native state. He and his wife have membership in the Methodist Episcopal Church. At Terre Haute, on the 18th of September, 1904, Mr. Hedges was united in mar!
riage to Miss Nellie D. Kemper, a daughter of George Kemper, who was long a farmer near Terre Haute and who also followed the trade of carpenter, both he and his wife being deceased, and the closing years of their lives having been passed at Martinsville, Illinois. Mrs. Hedges received her education mainly at Martinsville, Illinois, where her discipline included that of the high school, and she has been specially active in various phases of work in connection with the Methodist Episcopal Church, besides being a gracious figure in social and cultural circles. Byron D., only child of Mr. and Mrs. Hedges, completed his high school course in the City of Terre Haute, where he thereafter was a student in the Indiana State Teachers College, as the former normal school in that city is now designated. He is a coadjutor of his father in directing the business of the Indiana Dairy Marketing Association. He married Miss Geraldine Shepherd, of Mooreland, Henry County, and their one child!
is a winsome daughter, Joy Eloise.
Hi Teddy,
Thanks for your very kind and generous offer. I'm most interested in the
following Ogles:
Peter Ogle m. Nancy (unknown) before 1837 probably in OH. They were in OH
where their two oldest children were born, Martha Ann and Rosetta. About 1843,
they moved to IL where they are enumerated in the 1850 Clark Co IL census and
where their youngest were born-Margaret and Samuel. I don't have any evidence
that this family was in Indiana except that John N. Hasten m. Martha Ann Ogle
and family appear in the 1880 Vigo Co., Prairieton census.
What dates do the marriages cover in the pages that you found?
Thanks again.
Pat

I need a free look up for the whereabouts of Jacob & Hannah (Lefler)Myers at the time of the 1850 Census . They would have had 4 daughters under the age of 10 yrs. and an baby boy of 1 yr. old William Henry Myers born in Vigo county 5 May, 1849. When Jacob and Hannah were married in Grant county IN on 30 June, 1840 both their surnames were spelled differently than what we are now seeing on their grave markers in Southern OREGON (both died in 1904) William Henry Myers was my husband's grandfather who died in Orland CA 12, March 1926.
We do know that by the 1860 Census Jacob & Hannah's family had added 9 more children(most of which didn't survive to adulthood) and they were living in Scotland county MO . any information will be greatly appreciated . Please e-mail me Neomi Myers --neemy735(a)msn.com

My husband's line doesn't seem to use the Charles name. I do know
there is a line went to Indiana. Some ended in NW Ohio. There are
several Charles in Claude Calvin's book. None say Indiana in the
index. However, charles Fletcher is listd as born 1859, son of
Raleigh Bell II who was born in Brown co OH and died in Edgar co,
ILL. It says: Raleigh Bell Calvin II was born after the death of his
father and as his mother also died at time of his birth, he never
knew either father or mother. The infant was probably cared for by
his grandparents but later as a young boy lived with his uncle
Timothy D. Calvin. However, when the latter moved with his family to
Indiana in 1854, young Raliegh did not accompany them but according
to family tradition ran awayt and became an apprentice boy in his
native Ohio. Later, while still a young single man, he moved to Edgar
co. Ill, where he engaged in farming near Paris not far from his
Uncle David. Here he was married and raised a large family, dying in
1909 at the age of 78.
He had 15 children, including Charles Fletcher Calvin who mar Addie
Virginia Propst.
The other Charles Calvin's are from Calif. PA, ILL.
The Timothy D. moved to Monroe co, Indiana near Nashville in what
became Brown co IND. His children appear to be Collins, John B. and
Timothy D. II.
Have you been in contact with Marilyn Solari. She is the expert on
the Calvin/Colvin lines, and is herself descended from CALVIN. Let me
know if I can help in any other way. Margaret Calvin.
PS There is a Mary J. Calvin d/o Joshua, bn probably in Mahoning co
OH. who married a Samuel G. MELLINGER. She died in 1913 but I have no
other info on them. Just thought it was a coincidence that might mean
somthing to you.

me know, I get them from the WPA records, by Heritage Quest, whenever I get
to the Library. I'll just ask that you send me a SASE for them. No Hasten came

William Martin Biggs enlisted in The Union Army at
Springfield, Illinois, as a Substitute for his Cousin
Jackson Biggs, on the 25th of October, 1864 as a Private.
in Company H, 51st Regiment,Illinois Infantry, Volunteers.
----------------------------------------------------------
He was retreating from the Skirmish Line, under pursuit,
driving a Caisson (a two wheeled cart, carried shot and
powder, pulling the Cannon) when he neared his lines, at
the battlements (earth works) at the entrance he overcame
some prisoners, the Cassion over turned, and the Battery Team trampled him, injuring his back, head, arm and neck.
----------------------------------------------------------
He was seperated from the Army at Camp Irwin,Texas,November
1865, and Discharged as a Corporal, November 25th, 1865
at Camp Butler, in Springfield, Illinois.
----------------------------------------------------------
I was searching for William Martin Biggs for several years. In the Family Grave plots in Lone Mountain Cemetery, all
the Biggs Family that are buried there I knew who was who, but one Individual. Jackson Biggs. Just birth & death dates
on the marker. In this plot was my Great Grand Mother,
Annie C. Biggs (Taylor) and Alice Myrtle Biggs, Annie's
youngest daughter. But who was Jackson Biggs?
---------------------------------------------------------
I just found out who Jackson Biggs is, Under the Grave marker, Jackson Biggs is laid, William Martin Biggs, he
was there all the time, but every one who knew this story
are now gone. Old family records sent to me recently,
revealed this fact to me.
-----------------------------------------------------------
As William Martin Biggs enlisted in the Union Army as
a Substitute for Jackson Biggs, served as Jackson Biggs,
drew a Civil War pension as Jackson Biggs, when he was
buried, the Veterans Group that buried him, had by Law,
had to put the name Jackson Biggs on the Marker.
---------------------------------------------------------
I have all his Discharge Papers, pension papers, marriage
license, etc. Now if any one in Vigo County, Illinois,
who are a desendent of Jackson Biggs would please contact
me, I would be very greatful.

My Great Grand father moved from Indiana/Illinois area
sometime around 1870, was a Rancher in Elko County, Nevada,
and Later moved to Pershing County, Nevada, where he purchased a Ranch in the upper Valley, where he died about
15 years later.
Thank You very much.
