Dear Claudia,
Thank you. I'll look it up and check the census for his parents. I would like to do a mailing soon for the Snedeker families that are presently living in Terre Haute and send along a few pages of documentation from census and city directories. The 1890 city directory has my gg-grandparents, Ralph L.and Anna Smith Conover . There are several Snedekers that are in the building trades and those are the ones most likely to be related.

Ed thank you! I had driven by it for several years and didn't even know it was there until about a year or so ago when someone cleared the brush so it was visible. I wondered if it had been indexed or photographed. Thanks again.

I would like to make contact with any of the Vigo County researchers that have Snedeker / Snediker ancestors. The lines I have connected with the Conover research I am doing came to Indiana from Middlesex and Essex Counties , New Jersey. Several are brick masons or doing construction work in the Terre Haute area for many years. They may be arriving as early as 1840 . William Snedeker moves his family back to New Jersey and then reappears after the Civil War. Other brothers I can find are James, Oliver and Kenneth. I have William's pension papers. I believe Oliver did not come west. Their sister is Ellen/ Elner Snedeker Conover. The Snedeker family is from South Brunswick and Cranbury, Middlesex Co., NJ. Their mother was Margaret Smock.
Several of the family had tried to help our cousin verify the marriage of Elner to Ralph R. Conover. I still need a Bible record, a county record or a church record for this and have not been able to find one. Is their a Snedeker or Merry ( Conover daughter's married name) researcher that might have this in their records. The Snedeker Book doesn't give documentation. Thanks

I am looking for information on the family of James Sherman Beard. He lived in Terre Haute a good portion of his life. He was married to Estella Leeds and had one daughter, Dorothy May Beard. His parents were John Beard and Hattie Bradley. I am looking for any sibliings of James Sherman that I can find. I believe that had quite a large family. He may have grown up around the Vincennes area. He was born Feb. 11, 1894 and died Oct. 30, 1979. Married Estella on April 8, 1916 in Knox County. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Now that I know roughly what you're looking for, let me try my query on the Montgomery family again. The first was too long for a newspaper query.
Seeking information on the family of George Montgomery and kin who settled at Fontanet, Nevans Twp, in the 1830s. The Montgomery brothers, George, Hugh, and Jacob came with their mother Mary Secrest Montgomery Biggs, step father Burrill Biggs, and Biggs step-brothers. George Washington Montomery was born about 1810 in Adams County, Ohio, and died in Vigo County about 1871. He had at leat two wives. By his first wife he had James, (1838), Nancy Catherine, 1838, Thomas, 1842, Margaret Ellen ?, and Alex, 1845. Nancy md Wm A. Hodges and, Alex in tow, went out to Iowa about 1861. Margaret md Daniel Jacks, died in 1859. George's first wife died shortly after Alex's birth in the summer of 1845. George later married Lucetta McAllister, a much younger woman, by whom he had more children --Sarah, Hugh, Wm, Joel, Eliza, and Christopher. They are still in Fontanet on the 1880 census.
Can anyone help us find the name of George's first wife? Alex told the 1925 Iowa census takers it was Margaret Morgan. Others say it was Margaret Lussader. Marriages recorded have a marriage of a George Montgomery in Fountain County to a Margaret Parcus and shortly thereafter to a Catherine Lussader, but we don't know if either is the right George Montgomery.
Alex also said he had an aunt Bessie Adkins of Fontantet, a sister to his mother. My searches of marriages to Adkins show no one name Elizabeth marrying an Adkins with any of those last names.
Also interested in the family of George Washington Brack, who was from NY, lived in Fontanet, then moved on to Iowa before 1860.

I'm wondering if the Kadel's Holiday Shoppe, Inc. is still in business? I would like to make contact with the Kadel family that might still have ownership of it. Robert Kadel was still in business in 1982 he owned it and I believe he is 82 now. So maybe his children have carried on the business. The store was once known as the "Kadels Art Shop", business started in 1906 I believe by Roberts father.
Appreciate your help
