My ISP recommended spybot for this purpose. I have run it on several
computers with no problems. It found lots of stuff, such as cookies you
might not know you have doing things you don't understand. File sharing
(napster, kazaa, etc) also often brings in spyware.

As I understand, anti-virus software does not check for spyware and I'm not
sure about firewalls. However, on the local news last night (www.nbc11.com),
they mentioned a free anti-spyware software available at www.spybot.com (I
think.) I've only recently learned about spyware myself. One of the most
prevalent ways in which it is installed as through opening e-greetings. As the
lecturer commented, these people are students of human nature and who doesn't like
to receive a congratulatory greeting?!
I hope this has been helpful to you. It's ashame that we all have to be so
watchful and I often think that genealogists are the most vulnerable because we
subscribe to so many lists and do so much work online.

Is this the same Burguonne C. Tritt that's listed in the 1850 federal census as Burgoyne Tritt, age 26, a farmer with a value of 700 (dollars I'm assuming), born in Virginia, wife is Anna Tritt age 24, with son Jacob age 7, and daughter Martha age 9? If it is, Martha married Jacob A. Wolfe May 12, 1859. Both were born in Vigo Co., and sometime after they were married they moved to Chester Precinct, Nebraska. Both are buried there. Jacob is my GG-Grandfather's brother. Jacob's father is Noah McClelland Wolfe who was born in Rockingham Co., and died in Vigo Co.. He is my brick wall.
The first I've found the subject surnames is in the 1880 census for Praireton
Twp., Vigo Co. Am interested in connection with other researching these
families.

The info I have came from conversations with Vernice Tritt Rhoden in Sandford, IN about 1972. If I have this correctly: Sarah"Sally" BOYER, b. 10/20/1798, married Peter TRITT and had a son Burguonne C. Burguoine C., b. 1/2/1820, married twice. First he married Ann Noel SMITH and then Ann MASTERSON in 1865. Ann Noel and Burguoine C. had four children. Is this the family you are looking for?

The Historic Atlas of Indiana series may be an invaluable aid to Genealogists, Historians and researchers in search of 19th century Indiana places. Each Atlas CD consists of a series of 8 or 9 bordering counties making up 1 of 11 Zones that depict all 92 Indiana counties. Each Zone Atlas contains 400 dpi scanned images of vintage 1876 county maps that are organized and presented in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF). Original paper source quality varied from county to county; however, every effort has been made to retain the integrity of the original maps during conversion to digital format.
Each county map may include the following 19th century features:
* roads, railroads and canals
* cities, towns and villages
* post offices and government sites
* one-room schoolhouses, churches and cemeteries
* rivers, streams and ferries
* industrial sites, furnaces and mills
* early homesteads and farms
* and much, much more
The Adobe Acrobat Reader for MS Windows is needed to view, zoom, pan and print from the PDF map images contained in this atlas, and is included free on each CD. No other software is necessary.
The Historic Atlas of Indiana Counties CD's are available for purchase directly online at the following URL:

Hi Joanna:
Thanks for the reply to my request. I would love to exchange
information with you regarding the McGranahan/Winn
families. The child of the first marriage of Lois Amanda to
Burley Biggs...is my grandfather; Theopholis Biggs. As a
young child, I remember visiting Emmett and Beulah Raehn
in California. I believe my grandfather, Theo, stayed very
close to his half-siblings. I have been trying to find information
on both the McGranahan and Biggs families of Fontanet and
Coal Bluff. PLEASE contact me again so that we can try
to close some of the loops. Again, thank you for your
reply.

Karen,
In the Wabash Valley Obit Index the following is listed:
Gardner, Molly M., Age 68, death Nov. 11, 1926, Page 2, TRIB.
If you send a dollar to the Vigo Cty Public Library, in Terre Haute, Indiana, you can get a copy of the actual notice which appeared in the paper. I did not see a listing for Cicero Gardner. Hope this helps you. Dot
