John I realized I didn't ask where Hettie is buried? I see you have death date? But I have been confused by the 1850 Census, the woman there is Phobe , and an older Hetty Serrin living with the Dowlings. So who is Phoebe? and a child named Phobe Mullin.I was hoping to locate the older Hetty's death date any info.? Could this be a mix up on death dates?

The original death certificates will usually contain additional
information that is not on the certified typed copies. This
additional information will vary, but usually contains important
genealogical information, and I have found this information that is
usually absent on typed certified copies:
Name and address of informant (usually a family member)
Names of the parents of decedent and where they were born
Name of spouse and whether spouse is still living
Burial location
The additional importance of getting a photocopy of the original is
that there will be no transcription errors that can occur when the
clerk transcribes the original to a certified copy.

I was told the non- certified sometimes has more genelogy info, but I haven't found that to be true. They all have the same information, I ordered the non certified and got a newly typed form, the certified copies I have ordered are copies of the original (Monroe & Marion Counties), thought maybe you could get an actual copy if you ordered the certified (with the stamped seal).

I don't remember them asking what I wanted, and I guess I don't really know
the difference. Does a non-certified have all the same information, such as
parents and where buried?

Would like to have contact with descendants from these Terre Haute families. The Conovers came to Indiana from the Rahway/ Newark ,New Jersey area in 1838/39. The Civil War pension records of Samuel S. Conover name his wife , Frances Weeks Conover , and give the names of Terre Haute residents Levi G. Benson and James Hill as witnesses for the pension . Samuel Conover served in Comp. B, 54th Regiment of the Indiana Vols., June of 1862 - Sept. 1862.
I am searching for Samuel Conover's place of birth , the marriage places of his brothers( listed below) in New Jersey, the correct Conover parents and other siblings. I believe they are members of a Baptist Church in Terre Haute. The men work in the building trades: mason, plasterer, blacksmith.
Two known Conover brothers:
1. Ralph R.Conover ,married Eleanor (Elnor) Snedeker in about 1834, NJ
2. William Conover , married Catherine Warth , 1837 , NJ
The families of Ralph and William Conover are buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Terre Haute. Samuel and Frances Conover returned to Rahway, New Jersey. He died there in 1891.
Thank you.
It only takes about two weeks to get a death certificate from Indianapolis (Marion County). Did you order a certified copy of the death certificate?

Just to relate my recent experience (this summer) with obtaining a Vigo
County Death certificate......I sent in my money order for $4.00 plus
identification, and they told me it would be 4 months because they were
behind. As it turned out, although it SEEMED like four, it was 2 months,
and I received the information I needed. My only concern is that they
retyped it, not photocopied anything, and the mother's name did not match
what I found elsewhere once I had it. So then you question, did VC make a
typo, or was the info wrong, or is there a typo elsewhere...and of course I
can't seem to track the mother of this person (gg grandfather of my
daughter-in-law) to easily determine what was correct. But at least the
death certificate did take me back another generation that I had not been
able to verify - I had been right as to the father, but he had remarried, so
I didn't know the first wife's maiden name.
I have received death certificates from other counties much more quickly,
but they were also less populated counties, so probably fewer requests.

If you live close, you can go in the office. Sometimes the person you are looking for is in their books. You can write down all of the information which is what happened for me. If the counter gets busy, you have to wait. The people there are very friendly and will do what they can to help you. If the person you are looking for is not in the books there, they will tell you and tell you how long the wait is for it to come from Indianapolis. They can't help that. Good luck.
Someone posted that Vigo County Public Library's address was
www.vcpl.org. That belongs to a consulting firm of some sort, no
affiliation whatsoever with the library. The correct URL is
www.vigo.lib.in.us. However, the original posting had to do with birth
records, and the library does not have anything online, just marriage
records and an index to obits in the newspaper. As was stated, correctly,
the library has the Indiana county WPA birth record transcriptions for
1880-1920 on microfilm. The WPA project ended years ago before all
counties' records were transcribed, so not every county is represented.

Hi Bill/Karen: I may have already talked to Karen about this or something else, sure sounds familiar. Anyway, I'm the descendent of Rhoda Douglas and her Daddy Andrew. My Rhoda spent an awful lot of time in Vigo and was the mother of at least 7 McClure kids by Zachariah McClure. Ole Zach died and she married again but can't remember right now to who but she married him there in Vigo. She died in Lacon, Marshall, Illinois and is buried there....mac
