Sharon, It would be difficult to search the indexs to the atlas for combinations of first names with the same (unknown) surname, as it lists only landowners and subscribers, it does not list all family members, and often only the initials are given. A quick search of the A-H part opf the landowners index found only one candidate family with two of the right names, a Patrick and M. Curley. Do you want me to look for others like that?
You mentioned the names Cravens and O'Reagon. I found no Cravens, but the name Reagan appears in the landowner index. Pat.has land in Section 1 of Sugar Creek Twp. and P. has land in sections 35 and 36 of Fayette Twp. These plots are within a mile of each other, so it could all be the same person.

I am also very interested to learn of this 1874 atlas. My request may seem a little strange, though. I am helping my great-aunt find information about her father's family. However, it seems that the surname he used when he moved south to Louisiana was not his real family name. So if I give you a name to look up, it may or may not be the right one. I do have his parents' and siblings' names. Would it be too difficult to look up given names? His father was Mike and his brothers were Pat, Mike and Mac. Presumably, they were from Ireland but I don't know when they came to the US. The one who came south, Tom, was born in 1886 in Indiana and he said the family homesteaded land near Terre Haute.
I do thank you for any assistance you are able to give.

If any of these siblings are in your family, I would really appreciate hearing from you. Tom was born in 1886, left Indiana around 1904, married in northwest Louisiana in 1915 and settled in southeast Louisiana by 1920 and died there in 1954. He told his family stories of his parents, Mike and Martha, being from Ireland. He said they homesteaded land in Clay County near Terre Haute. He said that when he was about 7, he and his mother went back to Ireland to settle some family business. He used the surname O'Reagon but hinted that it was not his real name. There's a possibility that it might have been Cravens.
I'm hoping to help my great-aunt find out more about her family. I would appreciate any assistance.

I thought I had quite a lot of info about the Nevins family in Vigo and Parke Cos. but I don't find a Samuel. I am looking for the father of my grgrandfather, John Nevins, who was born in 1820, possibly in Ky but also IN is a good possibility. He was a frontiersman who kept moving west, leaving no tracks.

Looking for info on my g-g-grandfather, Phillip Shepherd. The 1850 census
shows him & my g-g-grandmother Margaret (Harpold) living in Harrison
Township, Vigo Co., IN. I know about them after 1850 but don't know anything
about Phillip before that. His obits & other census info are conflicting.
Born April 18,1826. Some places say that he was born at Charleston,SC,
others say Charleston,NC. One even says born in KY. I may be the last
Shepherd in his direct line of Shepherd's. I'm wanting correct info on
Phillip so that I may purchase a tombstone for his now unmarked grave.

I am curious about the name TAPY. Our last name is TAPEY although on census records and even some tombstones it appears as TAPY. My husbands ancestors came over from Germany in the mid 1840's and settled in Ohio and then on to Wayne Co., Ind. According to an aunt my husbands g grandfather came with a male cousin and were the only ones of that name to come to the U.S. Even though they came from Germany I have been told the name is really French. Would appreciate any help. Thanks - Mary Ann <cemat(a)amigo.net>

You didn't say what time period you are talking about; I checked the 1920 census, no John Randall/Randell in Sullivan Cnty (Hymera) or Vigo Cnty. Also checked 1910 Index; none in either county there either, but there was a John H Randall in Greene Cnty (next to Sullivan); he was 38 and b. MO. If you have access to those images, it's T624-352, Pt 3, Pg 14. If you can give me a time period, I have a few other censuses for Vigo and Sullivan and would be happy to help. I also checked for a John Randall marriage to Fannie? and didn't find one. You may email me direct at rzgrdn(a)rapidnet.com and I'll be happy to help.

Vickie,
Have you tried to find someone who can look for Willis and Cora in the 1900
Clinton census? He may have left home before that but very likely he didn't.
The census would be your best bet.
I know of a Silas Davis born in Terre Haute abt 1840 but the children I have
for him don't include Willis or Cora. They could have been his grandchildren
but on the other hand, Davis is a fairly common name so there may have been
Davis families there that aren't even related to the family I have.
Good luck,
Joyce Shannon Zandri
I am looking for info on my GGrandfather Willis E. Davis and his parents. I
know he was born on 12 December 1886 in Terre Haute. I am looking for his
parents names. Seems his father was cruel to him and his sister Cora so he
left home with her and they went to Tennessee where he met Emmaline Flovella
Smith whom he married and they married in Caruthersville, Mo. on 4 July
1910. Any help on finding his parents names would be much appreciated as he
never mentioned his parents names again so his children have no idea what
they are. thanks, Vickie

The Coal mines in Clay and Vigo County were active early in the 1850s.
My folks, Ezra Morrison Lowe and his wife Sarah Oliver were married in Casey
Co., KY in 1833. I believe two of his brothers came with him and his wife in
1834 to Vigo County.

HI list--
I was wondering if this surname HANDEGUAND which is French, comes up in
the Vigo area 1910-1930's?
I am looking into other spellings of the maiden name of Clemence BLANGIN. I
found this name in Saginaw, alson I obtained Clemences obit from Saginaw
and her nephew's name was DeROP-- I am wondering if this name came to Vigo
at all too.
Thanks
