Have William Reynolds, born 1858 in Fayette County, IL. Son of Joseph Reynolds and Cynthia Ann Ray. William married Margaret Loar in Altamont, IL on Juy 2, 1885 and they did have a son William...but I am unable to find a birth year on him. I have heard he made his living as a gambler. Does this fit with your William by any chance? Siblings to William would have been Ora E., Walter, Leroy, Lloyd, Elmer A., Ada, John, Ruth, and Margaret and when son Leroy died in 1935, father William and spouse Maggie were living in St. Louis.
The CLAY COUNTY GENEALOGICAL LIBRARY in Center Point will be closed all
three days during the Thanksgiving Holiday week.
Please plan to visit another time.

Searching for information on the above family connections. John E. Lamb married Esther Kent. His sister, Mary Lamb, married Peter M. Crawford. Esther's sisters: Maude Kent married Morton Hidden while Josephine Kent married John O. Piety. All of this in the late 19th to early 20th centuries.
Mary Kent Hidden was born 1900 to Maude and Morton. Mary, Charles A., John, James, and Betty Lou were born to Mary and Peter; Josephine and John's two children were John K. and Jane E.
There are plenty of John's, Peter's, Mary's, and Jane's to go around in this group...Thanks!

I have a couple of Moses Carr grand fathers, know of a couple of other Moses, some related, some not.
There is no other information on the marriage record from 1868. The State of
Indiana didn't require any other information until 1882, however, almost none
of the counties properly keep the records that were law. In 1909, they then
required such information as parents and where they were born, also whether
first marriage, or how an earlier marriage ended. You will have to look into
the census for her parents.

Happy Veteran's Day to everyone on the list!
We can all trace our family lines back to numerous family members and
branches who fought for our country.
I would like to tell you about my grandmother, who was born and raised in
Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana. She was a Navy WAVE in Washington D.C.,
who tried to enlist before she was legally able. Her name: Marcella LENNE.
It would take pages to tell her story. Instead, we have created a website to
detail her story:
<A HREF="http://members.aol.com/Bailey7435/WAVESMarcy.html">http://members.aol.com/Bailey7435/WAVESMarcy.html</A>
If you vist the site above, please take a moment to sign the guest book for
Marcy.
I am planning on revamping the website and adding many photos and stories
from Grandma's life experiences over the winter-there are already many photos
on the site from WW II. However, I would like to share with you my
grandmother's story about the day the war ended, as she worked in Washington
D.C. (Marcy told this story in a 1999 interview with me, audiotaped):
The Day the War Ended
Marcy went to work as usual. Through the day, she constantly heard rumours
that the war was ending. Everyone at work waited in anticipation, but no word
was announced. Marcy left work that day, taking a trolley back to Arlington
Farms. She was walking up the sidewalk to her barracks, when she heard people
cheering and saying the war was over. Marcy walked back to the street. A
military truck full of cheering service men and women was passing by. The
truck never stopped. As it was passing by, one serviceman reached down and
clasped Marcy's hand in his own and pulled her onto the back of the truck as
the truck rolled by. The group traveled to the White House, where they all
celebrated the end of the war outside with thousands of other enlisted men
and women. Marcy told me that bottles of beer were flowing from person to
person, and everyone drank after each other, hugging and kissing at the
announcement that the war was over. She said it was a party that you could
not imagine, unless you were there.
The next morning, Marcy still had to report for work at the Radar Division.
She told me that Washington D.C. was completely empty! She said you could
"hear" the silence in the streets of D.C. As she traveled on the trolley, she
did not see another person, until she arrived at her office. D.C was
deserted, the day after the celebration.
I have a 90 minute tape of my grandmother's stories from the war. I
interviewed her in 1999. I encourage everyone to record/document stories from
all living veterans of wars-until I interviewed my grandmother in 1999, I
never knew she was right outside the White House, celebrating the end of
World War II!
I have thought a lot about veterans in my family from various branches today.
I plan on adding their stories to this list over the next week, as they will
never be forgotten by me. Who knows, we may find a family connection or a
common link through our veterans.
In closing, I encourage all of you with veterans to get information , share
it with your family, and PUBLISH it while you can. After we put my
grandmother's website online, doors opened in many ways:
1. An online interview was done with me and published on a popular women
veteran's website on the internet-this spread word about Grandma's service in
WW II.
2. Many authors contacted me, wanting to include my grandmother's stories in
books
3. The editors of Chicken Soup for the Veteran's Soul asked me to contribute
grandma's story for a book
4.Grandma received email, letters, and gifts from current servicemen and
women, as well as veterans, from around the world.
Even if we do not have a family link, I would love to read more about
veterans from this area.

Do you know where I might find earlier obits for other Warners? We have an Albert Warner, died in Terre Haute some time between 1843 and 1849. He was married to Anzoletta Smith and had three children, all born, I believe, in Terre Haute. Can anyone provide lookup service? Thanks!

Hi Robert:
Again, just wanted to thank you for all of your time on this
look up. We are all very lucky to have people like you, who
volunteer your time. I did come across this reference to
John McGranahan and Louisa Amanda Winn...
So, now I will keep my fingers crossed, that I find another
volunteer in Clay County, to do a look up on this marriage.
Keep up the great work and know, that your effort has made
a difference.

Sounds like you have it right. I will add one observation - The evidence points to the fact that John's marriage to Elizabeth Nevins was not his first marriage (possibly not hers, either). This is based on the fact that he would have been about 36 and her about 31 when they married. Also, John the son was born before their marriage date. It would appear that John and Louisa were not married in Indiana - possibly PA?
To answer your last question, I have no connection to the family. I am a volunteer lookup for the Vigo County USGenWeb site, and I occasionally scan the message boards to see if there are questions I can answer.

Hi Robert:
You are a wealth of information...and quick! I thank you so
much for the prompt reply and I appreciate all of the data that you provided. Based on the information that you found:
I think this John McGranahan is a direct decendant of the
McGranahan's from Belfast, Ireland. They settled in PA
and had a rather large family. However, I have not been able
to connect the PA McGranahan's, with the Nevins Twp.family,
you may have provided that clue with the Census for John
McG, from PA and Elizabeth McG, from Ohio. Now, if only
I can find a record of the marriage of John McGranahan and
Louisa Winn! That should show his father and mother for
sure. And the missing Winn family<G>.
Let me see if I have this correct: In 1870 Census
John McGranahan, age 63; farmer from PA, born 1807
Elizabeth McGranahan, age 58, born OH in 1812
John McGranahan, age 34, born IN, 1836
Lewis (probably Louisa), age 32, born IN, 1838
So, the John age 63, and Elizabeth age 58, must have
been the marriage on December 17, 1843 in Vigo Co.
Therefore, this Elizabeth should be Nevins, correct?
This may be the missing link for me! I wasn't aware
the Nevins family was from Ohio. But, it gives me a place
to start looking <G>>
Again, thank you so very much for your prompt reply and all
the information..do you have a connection to any of this
family?
Marcia
