Hi Jeanette,
I am looking for the parents of James M.(?) Thompson who married Mary C.(?)
City in Greene Co., IN in 1847. I believe I found them living in Cass
Twp., Sullivan Co., IN in the 1860 census. I believe they both said they
were born in VA according to the census taker ;-{)
Thank you for your time and attention.

Jan--Did you know there is a town in Kansas called Lathrop? It's in the
SE part of the state--one of my McKeeman ancestors is buried there.

Speaking of circuit riders my grandfather LATHROP was one in KS. back in
the early 1900's. I'm not sure which denomination it was tho since he'd
served both E.U.B. and Meth. churches through out his many years in the
ministry. My grandmother used to tell me stories of the hardships they
endured. He was also a preacher in IA., IL. and IN. but I don't know what
years he was a circuit rider. I wished I'd asked more questions back then.

I teach church history in the primary of our Sunday School in our United
Methodist Church. The historian here at United Theological Seminary in
Dayton, Ohio may be able to give you some help with backgrounds on circuit
riders. The address is 1810 Harvard Blvd. Dayton, Ohio 45406.

Does anyone know any information about the circuit riding Methodist
Preachers? I noticed another one mentioned in a request on the Tn. web
page. I am sending this to more than one web page, so if you get a
duplicate of this request I apologize ahead of time!
Rumor has one in my husband's family by the name of Calvin T. THOMPSON b
abt. 1834 in Terre Haute, Vigo Co., In. He was supposedly a circuit
riding Methodist Preacher traveling in In., Tn., and Mo. I have written
to In. for information about Methodist Preachers and they have no record
of him being one. I was told 'a lot felt the urge to preach and took it
up on themselves to spread the word'.
He is the son of J.N.. THOMPSON and Estell (unknown) THOMPSON.
Calvin T. THOMPSON m Elizabeth Martha MORGAN, dau of J.A. MORGAN and
Ella (unknown) MORGAN, abt 1854 in Washington, In. Calvin T. and
Elizabeth had at least one child a dau Margaret Amanda THOMPSON b 1868
in In.? Tn.? Mo.?
Margaret Amanda THOMPSON m Pink W. BELL, b 1860 Washington, McClain Co.,
Ok., in 1888 in Mc Alester, Ok.
This line has been a brick wall for several years now, having had some
success on some of my other lines here lately I am searching again. Any
help, or information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I am looking for information concerning Church Mattox and his family. I am
particularly interested in his daughter Mary. Mary is listed as being 14 in
the 1850 Vigo Co. IN census. Any information concerning Church or Mary
would be greatly appreciated.
One unidentifed document I have states that "it has recently been proven
that Church Mattox was the son of Valentine Mattox, yet it does not explain
how it was proven. Does anyone have any insight on that relationship?

Hi, I'm going to find out if there is someone out there that is
researching the Steele family that I am.
My great grandfather was Robert Steele. He came from England and
his father was Scottish, his mother English, they were coal miners.
Robert's wife was from Wales and her name was Sarah Jane Carpenter,
mostly she went by Jane. Jane's father was from Wales and her mother
from England.
They settled in PA and then moved on to Clay Co., IN. Their
children were born in PA and IN. Robert was born about 1840-44, he
arrived in the U.S. about May the 23rd 1876. We have William born on
3-28-1871 (PA), John born on 9-24-1872 (PA), Joseph born on 3-12-1874
(PA), Elizabeth born on 3-1875 (PA), James born on 2-21-1878(IN),
Thomas born on 1-11-1880 (IN), George born on 11-15-1882 (IN), Sarah
Martha born on 1-27-1884 (IN), Herman born on 4-25-1886(IN), Robert
born on 2-24-1888 (IN), Frank and Archie born on 11-17-1892 (IN). An
aunt was with them her name was Anna Steele born on 5-20-1869. A John
Carpenter is listed with the Steele family as a neighbor in the 1900
census, he was also listed as a coal miner. John's parents were one
from Wales and one from England. He was 23 in 1900 and born in PA. He
could be a brother to Sarah Jane Carpenter Steele. I hope this may help
someone and maybe myself.
There are more, Stories, Karen
