Hi Group,
As I take a look at the Vanderburgh site, there just isn't as much as I'd
like to have there for researchers. I'd love to add some information, so
this is my idea...
Does anyone live in/near Evansville that can get to Willard Library or any
other library that has the Vanderburgh WPA books? I know that Willard has
copies of the WPA records for marriages, births and deaths.
So here goes:
1. We (as a group) choose which records we'd like to have online first. If
someone can Xerox the book we chose and let me know the price, I will put a
donation button on the site and we will collect the money to reimburse the
person's copy & mailing cost. (My husband doesn't have a job right now, or
I'd offer to pay for it all.)
2. The volunteer will mail the entire copy to me.
3. I will ask for volunteers on the list to take sections of the book to
type. I will send by snail mail, each volunteer's section for them to type.
4. As soon as the volunteer finishes typing their section, they will email
what they've typed and I will post the information online.
I've done this with my Warrick County researchers and we've gotten tons of
stuff up for Warrick (
http://marshaswarrickweb.com). Warrick has over 1100
web pages of free genealogy records available! The last huge project was the
1930 census records... they're all up with images AND transcribed!
Help me grow the web! I've got family roots in Vanderburgh and there's not
much I can find on my own family in the current web. I live in NC, so I
can't get there. Many of the list members are in the same boat.
Let's get some information up for Vanderburgh!!! Help all of us!!!!
