Subject: [KY-WEST] Ferry Grey Eagle, Hancock Co, Kentucky?

I am seeking information on the Ferry Grey Eagle, "sidewheel, wooden hull
packet. Launched 1840 Louisville, KY, Destroyed 1845." This is from
Way's
Packet Directory 1848-1994. We are trying to track down a JESSE WILLIAMS,
born by @ 1810 and died by 1850. Family story says that he had or worked on
a ferry called the Grey Eagle, upriver from Evansville, Indiana and was last
seen swimming across the Ohio. His son, William R Williams was born about
1832 and was supposed to be an orphan, son of Jesse Williams and Phoeba
Watson, all born in Kentucky. We found the Historical Marker from
Hawesville, Hancock County, Kentucky, mentioning the sinking of a large boat
and the burying of 36 bodies in a large grave and are wondering if we have
finally found the right location for our Jesse. Any information on finding
ferry licenses or how to further proceed would be most appreciated. Thank
you. Nancy
