This Catholic Cemetery was the St. Joseph Parish Cemetery which was
relocated to St. Joseph Cemetery on St. Joseph Ave. Many marked graves
were moved but a great number were reburied in a single mass grave at
the new St. Joseph Cemetery.

I, too, have been looking for records from the original site of the Vanderburgh County
Asylum, before it moved to the location near the Lloyd. The 1880 Ward 6 North plat map
clearly shows the Asylum as stated in the original post, on Columbia between Lafayette and
what is now Governor. Another interesting location on this plat map is the notation of
"Catholic Cemetery" and Cemetery on each side of Virginia Street at what is now
Garvin. This is the current location of St. Joseph Catholic Church. My husband's
family had an antique store on the opposite corner until a few years ago when the building
was torn down. I have to wonder if all the graves in these cemeteries were moved or are
still located there.
