Hi,
I lived on N. Elsas Ave (north of Garvin Park) from 1943-1952
and went to Henry Reis school from kindergarten to the first 2 mos of 1952,
when we then moved to Posey CO. My kindergarten teachers were Miss
(everyone was Miss to meJ) Hyman? and Trusty, first grade was Miss Sutton,
2ond was Viola Weaver, third was Miss Cane who became Mrs. Mattingly, and
fourth was Miss Richwine. I am not certain on the spellings of these
names. Miss Weaver had braids which she wore wrapped around her head.
Miss Sutton was a very short lady, or to me was short. Does anyone know
what happened to these teachers? The principal was Lawrence Paige.
Henry Reis was a K-8 school, and all the kids walked to school and we brown
bagged it. I think the first time HR had a hot lunch program was when I
was in the third grade 1951-52. My class room was in the basement which
is where the cafeteria was. And the schools at that time in Eville were
segregated.
Can anyone help job my memory? Thanks. Helen Zuber Keusch
