MARGARET K. BALSER
Margaret Katherine (Haartge) Balser was born Oct. 13, 1866. She was one of nine
children born to her parents, Gretchen and Henry Haartge, all of whom have proceded her in
death.
In 1882 she was married to Raymond C. Balser. To this union seven children were born,
all of whom have passed to the Great Beyond.
At an early age she joined the First Baptist church of Grandview, later transferring
her membership to the First Baptist church of Evansville.
Since 1915 she has resided in Evansville, and in recent years has made her home with
her only son, Walter Balser, in that city. For the past year she has lived in Grandview
with her daughter, Mrs. Rilla Parker.
On her birthday, Oct 13th, she was stricken with a fatal illness and remained bedfast
until death, which came Jan 4, 1944, at the age of 77 years, 2 months and 22 days.
Those remaining to mourn her loss are her husband and children, Mrs. Minnie Arnold of
Evansville, Mrs. Ella Brown of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Rilla Parker of Grandview and
Walter R. Balser of Evansville; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, six nieces,
six nephews, and a host of friends.
Mrs. Balser's life among us has been an inspiration. Her unselfishness and
devotion to duty as she went cheerfully about her tasks have helped all woh observed her.
She has been a good wife, a loving mother, and a faithful friend. These are rare
qualities, and we shall miss her who reflected them so abundantly.
Note:
The mother should be Gesche / Gersche / Geesche. Whether Gretchen is an Anglicized form, I
do not know.
