Hi Folks,
I'm searching for anyone who is familiar with the following:
I have a 2.5'x3' framed drawing/painting of a town square monument
standing on three large stone bases. By scale of the people standing
next to it, would be 20' wide by 50' high. The top has 5 statues: left
side lady which lists "Columbia" (section below titled "Good
Bye")-right
side lady lists "History" (below her states "On the Field". Center is
Union solider holding the flag and on each side is a solider facing to
the back side. In the center is a hand written history of my Great
Grandfather, William Graul's Union Army service record, who enlisted in
Vanderburgh Co. 8-30-1862 (32nd Reg Ind Vol Inf). It lists all of his
engagements and ends with "Present to Family May 15, 1897 to his wife
Emma as a object lesson in Patriotism". The bottom lists "This design
for a National Monument was dedicated to the Grand Army of the Republic
& Kindred Societies to be erected to the Rank & File of the Union Army
October A.D. 1898.
I apologize for this lengthy (my first) post and thank you for any help
on the history.
