Hi Ken,
I contacted another Gonterman researcher that is connected with this line that has a lot
of information. Actually there are 2 women that can help you with this line. One is name
CD Gonterman and I am going to copy and paste her reply to my email about your family
below. The other woman is named Sharon and I have her email address and will be happy to
introduce you to either of these women.
Information from CD Gonterman about your line:
Henry's strike again!!!! This Henry is the son of William Gonterman and Elizabeth
(Betsy) Thompson, I have him married to a Margaret Jane Scott and father to 12 children.
Eliza, Born 14 March 1844 was married to a George H Williamson, 10 of Feb 1870 Menard IN.
No proof of connection to Abraham Lincoln. The only connection I know of is, Henry
Gonterman and Barbara Gonterman (first Cousins) were the parents of William.
This is from THE BOOK!!! "More Moore's and Allied Families" by Marge
McCarver
"In 1818, Henry and Barbara moved their family across the Ohio River to Spencer Co.
IN along with Noah and Nancy Gorden, Thomas and Nancy Lincoln and the Lincoln's 9
year old son, Abraham. Family tradition says that the 3 families moved together. Minutes
of the Little Pigeon Baptist Church provide us with lots of interesting data on the 3
families. It seems that Henry and Noah, along with Thomas Lincoln, must have work
together to build the church".
"Henry and Barbara's daughter, Mary Ann, born 1802, was to later tell her
grandaughter, Mary Ann Kirsch (1866-1966) that her grandmother and Abraham Lincoln's
mother were sisters. Because of the many disputes over the lineage of Abraham Lincoln
(due to alleged illegitimacies) it has never been proven, but we do know that the families
all lived in close proximity in Kentucky even before moving on to Spencer Co.
Indiana."
Again this is not cut in stone, but one thing is that Marge Mc Carver that wrote this book
descends from this Henry
Please let us know about your family so that we may all know about your Henry?
Many Thanks,
Katherine Rosado
