Hi Ken,
I'm not placing your Henry Gonterman born in KY 1819 right away. In fact, a marriage
to a Maxfield is news to me. To give you and idea about the Henry Gonterman's of KY.
In 1780 we had 4 Henry Gonterman remove to what was later to become the state of KY and
all of these Henry Gonterman's were directly related.
I can tell you that I have seen no documentation that any of the Gonterman's married
into the Lincoln family while in KY. One of the Henry Gonterman (spelled Countryman, on
his 1787 Will) lived in close proximity of Abraham Lincoln's grandfather. Thomas
Lincoln, lost his land in a dispute over the grant and removed with his family to IN,
along with them we find a branch of our Gonterman family attending the same church in IN,
having removed in or about the same time as the Lincolns.
As for the Illinois Gonterman's, Jacob Gonterman removed his family from Christian Co.
KY to Illinois in 1817 time frame, give or take a year.
I have several phenominal researchers that I am working with on these family lines that
all originate in GER, to NJ>MD for a few years> KY and then onto IL and IN. I will
send your posting to them and see if they have any information for you about your Henry
Gonterman.
Given the dates for your Gonterman surname, he is related to the KY Gontermans.
So, my first instinct is to check the Henry Gonterman of Jacob Gonterman. I will do that
for you. I will be more than happy to help you document these Gontermans. I am very
interested in the Gontermans and they have been my primary focus of research for the last
10 years.
Feel free to contact me at my email address directly if you wish to do so.
