Sandy, many times people would travel from smaller towns to large ones
to get married, either as a way of starting their honeymoons or if they
didn't think their families would approve of the marriage. This was probably
done via train, which gave people lots of mobility. If they were Catholic
it would be much more common to get married at the bride's home parish
but that wasn't even a rule. If the marriage was performed by a priest
he should have signed the marriage license. You might have to do some research
to see if the name matches that of any priest. In general, you probably
need to do some more census work, although it can be tricky for people
who moved a lot, which happended for railroad workers and lots of other
industrial workers.
