I am trying to locate any information on a trial that was held in Evansville in the early
1940's. My grandfather, Frank Jennings was arrested, along with another man for black
market oil fraud. All I know is that it had something to do with gas rationing tickets.
They served about 3-4 months in the Evansville jail and were eventually acquitted. I was
told that it made the headlines of the paper in Evansville. If they had of been convicted
they could have served a life sentence so it was quite the news story at the time. Does
anyone have access to old newspapers in the area or a website where I can do the research
myself or any other suggestions. I've known about this for several years but it is
one of those deep, dark family secrets that those who lived through it do not want any of
the rest of the family to know about. My grandfather passed away several years ago but it
is still very painful for my dad to talk about. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
