Greetings.
I am from New Zealand, but researching a gg-uncle who emigrated from Derbyshire, England
to the US in about 1901. William PARKER was born in 1877 in Newhall, South Derbyshire,
and as a young man worked in the potteries. He emigrated to Camden, near Trenton, New
Jersey where he presumably worked for the potteries before moving to Kokomo, Indiana. He
was in that town when he wrote a letter to his sister and brother-in-law in January 1901,
and was still there in June that year, at the time of the census.
However, he is listed in an address book used by my grandfather c. 1914 at 309 Chestnut
Ave., Evansville, Indiana, so I presume he moved there to work in one of the potteries. I
have seen references to the Crown Pottery employing young men in Evansville at around this
time, but it may not have been the only firm operating.
I would appreciate any help with finding William PARKER in any lists of the period, such
as directories, employment records etc., please. Also any background information to the
town and the potteries c. 1914 would also be very welcome. I haven't found any sign
of William PARKER after this date, despite extensive searches in the 1920 census, so would
be grateful for any assistance. Of course he may have returned to England!
Thanks very much for your time. Regards and best wishes,
Brett Payne
