Maryjane,
The documents that I received, indicated that Herman Stoermer was born 14 June 1804,
Kerstenhausen, Kassel. He was son of Melchior Stoermer, b. 7 Jan 1765, d. 18 Sept. 1832,
married 6 April 1795 to Anna Marie Lotzerich, b. 1768-1769, Germany, d. 18 Dec. 1823,
Kerstenhausen.
Herman Stoermer married 30 Dec. 1832, Anna Elizabeth Wickert, Kerstenhausen, Kassel,
Germany.
Herman left the port of Bremen on or about 2 May, 1833 and arrived at port of Baltimore on
or about 23 June 1833. His declaration of intent was filed in Knox Co, IN.
In the 1840 census, Herman is living next door to John. The age is what made me think
they were brothers. Later, a descendant of John's verified that they were brothers.
The William in 1870 is the son of Herman Stermer and Elizabeth Wickert. The age of
Herman's brother John is a little off, but I feel that this is the same person.

By 1860, Herman is deceased and Elizabeth is living in Knox Co, IN with her children.

William is the one who moved to Vanderburgh Co. His parents may in fact be buried in Knox
Co. My ancestor and William's brother, George, moved from IN to AR in 1870. I'm
mainly looking for death dates for his father and mother - Johannes Herman and Anna
Elizabeth Stermer (Sturmer, Stoermer). I have some photos from their church in
Kerstenhausen, Germany. From what I've been told, they were Evangelical Lutheran.

I'm not sure that I understand who is who in the 1870 census. I
assume
that William (born 1844) and Herman (born 1850) are sons of the John H
Stermer. Are you telling me that your John (Johannes) Herman Stermer had a
brother, born in 1820 who was named Johannes H. Stermer. I would imagine
that the John H Stermer mentioned originally had the German name of
Johannes. Please satisfy my curiosity. Do you know whether your Johannes
Herman was a Catholic or a Lutheran? I know that most Germans are one or
the other. I ask because there are both Catholic and Lutheran cemeteries
in Evansville; at least one of each. You will find Emmanuel Lutheran
Cemetery, Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in Darmstadt, German Cemetery
and I thought I recalled a St. Joseph Cemetery, but might be wrong. I
moved away when I was 18. Willard Library contains quite a collection of
records, including churches (those would list dates of death) and
cemeteries, both Catholic and Protestant. You might send them a
query.

If you live in Indiana and have a library card from anywhere in IN, you can
access information at this site. I live out-of-state so cannot do that for
you.
