Hello Dave,
My Gr/Aunt, Florence Bitzer, married George S Stewart in Evansville Indiana on 20 March
1936. It was a 2nd marriage for both. George had a son from his 1st marriage, Edward L
Stewart, who died in a Japanese prison Camp in 1943 and his name is on a memorial along
with other names of Soldiers who died in WW 11 from Evansville IN. The Edward L Stewart
you are talking about must be the same one I know of.
Edward was born abt 1918 in New Albany Indiana.
According to the Web site in Evansville for the Browning Funeral Home there, Edward died
as a SGT, was 25 yrs old & did send out 2 letters from the Japanese Prison before he
died. I do not know where those letters might be, however, I am in touch with a relative
of Florence Bitzer Stewart who is in his 70's still living in Indiana.
George Stewart died in 1963 in Evansville and was a WW 1 Vet.I believe Edward was the only
child of George Stewart.
I have some pictures of Florence, George & son Edward.
I am so glad you have posted Edwards Grave site on this forum.I never knew exactly where
he was buried so this is great.
Please e-mail me if you think I might be able to help you in any way.
By the way, my married name of Stewart is a coincidence, I am not related to the subject,
only through my Gr/Aunts marriage, but I have been gathering data for Genealogy Records
for my family for years.
Thanks again
Jean E Stewart
