I have some microfilm-copied pages in my collections, each showing a particular obituary
that's of interest to me. Well, others have come along for the permanent ride, and I
thought I'd offer those up for reference here on Rootsweb. Portions of this page are
rather faded or overexposed, so I'll indicate as best I can with dashes if necessary.
Evansville Courier, Friday March 16, 1923
LEONARD J. HARTMAN
The funeral of Leonard J. Hartman, 53, 915 Heidelbach avenue, who died yesterday morning
at -- o'clock, will be held from the home tomorrow at 2:30 p.m., with burial in Locust
Hill cemetery. He leaves a widow, Mary, and a son, W--. He was a machinist at the Vulcan
Plow company. Bronchial asthma caused death.
MRS. SARAH JANE CROWE
, 71, 919 Fifth avenue, died yesterday afternoon at 5:30 o'clock. She leaves her
husband, T.L., three sons, W.S., M.E., and S.A. (sic); and two daughters, Mrs. Arthur
Baumeier and Pearl Crowe. Funeral services will be held from the home Saturday at 1:30
p.m., with burial in Oak Hill cemetery.
I know the above "S.A." should be "S.O." I can give more information
on the above obit should anybody be interested.
MATHIAS GERHARDT
, 77, 19 Edgar street, died last night at 6:50 o'clock of nephritis. He is survived
by two sons, Edward and Eugene. The body will be taken to Ferdinand late today for
burial. He worked in the checkroom at the Hotel McCurdy.
MRS. LETITIA BAKER
Funeral services for Mrs. Letitia Baker, 68, 205 Clark street, who died at 4 o'clock
Wednesday afternoon at the Deaconess hospital, will be held at 3 o'clock this
afternoon from Johann's chapel, with burial in Locust Hill cemetery. Rev. Leslie
Whitcomb, pastor of the Walnut Presbyterian church, will be in charge.
JACOB KUNTZMANN
(This one, unfortunately, is very hard to read; I'll glean the pertinent information
as I see it.)
Died yesterday at Deaconess hospital after a short illness.
He leaves wife Minnie, a Raymond (perhaps a son), at least 2 brothers, and 3 sisters.
Funeral services tomorrow afternoon, Zion's Evangelical, a Rev. J.C. Schn---. Burial
at Locust Hill cemetery.
He formerly conducted --- shops at the Vendome hotel and in the People's bank
building. He recently --- because of failing health. Member of Zion's Evangelical
church.
More as they are dug up! (no pun intended)
