I have seen "date of entry" on records at the National Arcives and it refered to
the date they came to the United States. The dates listed on the ships records are
"date of entry" which is the date the ship docked in the harbor.

I just found a land record for my ancestor,
Jacob Moell from Germany.
The book says "Date of Entry"......December 1837 --- does this mean when
he purchased the land or when he came into the USA?
And, don't you have to be a naturalized citizen to buy land?
If the above is true- then how many years does this process take?
One of his sons was born in May 1837 in Germany.... so if he came to the
US before
1837 ??????????
Please advise.
Danke,
