I am researching my ancestor Joseph Leopole Parson, he came to America in 1833, the first
place he stayed was Paoli, Orange Co, Indiana, I have a small life story, hopefully
something will click. He worked in a livery stable, for approx 2 years, and stayed at the
hotel, he was taught English by a school teacher who stayed in the same hotel. One clue as
to date is he menitons at approx 4 am, he went to saddle horses for men and when the stars
began to fall they got scared and left. IE A Comet, I can find a comet in 1835 visible by
the naked eye,
Joseph then left Paoli and head towards the Ohio River, there him and a friend decided to
run or start a ferry boat, no mention of the friend or place, between 1835-1838, here he
met a widow woman named Eliza A Robinson or Elizabeth Robertson, she had a small son, it
says they(Joseph and Elizabeth were married for some time)she died there and is buried
somewhere in Indiana,. Joseph then married someone named Dorsey or Dorshey, they were
married a very short time, he then went to another part of Indiana for a short time and
then on to Kentucky, he became a tobacco farme.
I can not find a Joseph Parson(s)on the 1840 Census. Either in Indiana or Kentucky, I did
find a John Parson, single man, being age over 20 and under 30 in Vanderburgh Co, the age
and county fit, but not the name, it is [ossible first name is wrong or was misunderstood,
he still had a strong accent.
I found him on the 1850 Census in Henderson Co, Kentucy with son Edward, Edward born
1837(we believe Edward to be the small son of the widow woman, he was also called Little
Joseph), Permelia born 1844, Ann M born 1846,
and twins Louis and William born Dec 1848, Louis, William and there mother Elizabeth died
Jan 1849.
Also in the house is Martha C Robinson, she was 58 and born in Virgina. We believe this to
be Joseph's mother in law, but not sure, for a long time we thought that Ann was
Martha's daughter, being Joseph sister in law, but I can find nothing that supports
that
On the 1850 Census Ann Stegall, her daughters Catherine and Elizabeth lived wtih the
Joseph Parson family, I finally found Ann and her family, she remarried in 1851 to William
Burkelow, with daughter Elizabeth living with them, but why did she live with Joseph?
Joseph then married Elizabeth J Green-McCann-Owens, who had children, he married her 1851
Vanderburgh Co, Indiana. ELizabeth Jane Green's father and family lived in Vanderburgh
Co, Knight Township, in 1840. His name was Thompson T Green.
Any help, lookups, advice is appreciated as this is driving me bonkers!!!!! I had a lookup
done for Henderson Co, the lady could find no records for Parson(s).
