Willard Library will be closing for more than two weeks in February so new shelving can be
installed.
Director Greg Hager said the library will be closed from Monday through Feb. 21,
adding: Were telling people to come in this week and stock up so theyll be covered.
While the library is closed, patrons can return books in the deposit box at the
driveway entrance or by calling the library to renew books to avoid fines.
The $100,000 shelving project, financed by private donations and a contribution by the
Friends of Willard Library, will replace all the shelves on the first floor, which is the
adult circulation and reference area, and some in the historical area on the second
floor.
Hager noted that two shelving units, both in fine condition, appear to date from when
the library opened in 1885.
They really stand out, Hager said. Theyre in great shape, much sturdier than the
ones that came in later.
They are going to be moved onto the second floor.
Through a library furniture specialty firm, Willard has been able to find steel
shelving encased in oak, stained to match the wood in the historic building.
The new shelving will not take up any more room than the current arrangement, Hager
said, but, because the shelves are adjustable, will offer more display space.
Four more tables and 16 chairs also will be added.
The Courier & Press ghost cam (
www.courierpress.com/ghost) will remain in
operation during the closure.
