Hospital for the Insane is now known as the Evansville State Hospital. It is still in
business. However a fire in the mid 20'th century destroyed many of the prior
records.
Microfilm of Smith Funeral Home activity is at Willard Library on microfilm. See C
Bogue's post for the URL. However, the records run from 1889 to 1959 not from 1899
to 1959.
St. Joseph Cemetery is still in business and they are most helpful. Please note however,
that the location of St. Joseph Cemetery has changed. It was formerly (before 1917) at
a site within the city where St. Joesph Church is now. Since 1917 or so, it has been at
its current site. I believe that when it was moved, as many graves as could be identified
were disinterred and moved to the new location, along with the stones. Because of this
move, records from 1895 may not be too helpful. Only the cemetery can tell you.
Good luck.
