I know, it's so odd :-) and confusing (But aren't these little mysteries
what make genealogy research so fascinating?). I thought the waters had
cleared, when you first answered and I looked at the LDS site, but things
got muddied up again when I looked at a PDF file of the census (I discovered
over the weekend my local library has access to Heritage Quest census files)
the handwriting is not clear. Heritage Quest doesn't have the 1880 census,
but does have the 1870 census. The birthdays all line up, but Mom-Jennie is
REALLY not clear, except that it starts with "J" (and even then I had to
find another j-name on the census and compare writing). Daughter-Jennie is
listed as "Mary J". S-o-o, I thought it's possible that the census writer
heard "Jennie" when the interviewee said "Janie". I thank you again
for
Dad-William's death date record. And to try to again get a clearer
picture, I'm going to investigate and send for a copy of a death certificate
and hopefully there won't be a third spelling. LOL
Thanks for your help,
Betty

Betty,
I saw another posting that you sent to the list where you said that you
reviewed the 1880 census and thought that the name of William's wife
looked
like Jane. Am I misunderstanding your meaning? I couldn't be sure since
I
couldn't see what information you were replying to. I viewed the census
again and it is written very clearly that both mother and daughter are
named Jennie. Perhaps you were referring to something else. Forgive me
for butting in if I have not understood correctly, but I didn't want you
to
be misled if you were referring to the wife of William G.. Here is the
direct transcription found on LDS site.
