Message Board Post:
I think this issue was raised a few months ago, but I can't find it in the message
postings.
My wife requested two marriage license APPLICATIONS (from the late 1800's) from the
V'burgh marriage license office in early December. We thought they had a backlog and
thus didn't harass them, but when inquiring recently (after 6 months), she was told to
start over ("we have no record of your request"....but we doubt anyone even
looked for it). A nasty young woman on the phone said we had to supply a page number on
the "form", but it's our understanding that that's required to find
marriage records, not applications...we have no idea how the applications are filed (we
assume by date)....for some reason, we say marriage "application" but this woman
hears "record". The woman left the distinct impression that she wanted us to go
away (very odd, Evansville folks are usually very nice).
I then found a "I have a problem" form on the clerk's office Web page, and
sent in our request that way, hoping that someone would help. No response, no
nothing...probably the same woman answers the E-Mail.
Has the office become that dysfunctional? Is there a list of volunteers/paid folks that I
could contact that might chase these records down for us? Or if our request is not
possible (we have conflicting info as to whether applications are available or not), could
someone please tell us? Sorry to carry on like this, but it's frustrating. Thanks.
