Nancy:
I would have emailed this to you, but I cannot make out your name with Rootsweb's
gray field over it.
Anyway, I went to the Cemetery today and saw John Hass's grave. The guy at the
cemetery had a computer printed map and everything! If you want, I will go back and take
a picture tomorrow.
This John Hass has a very small marker, and it is inscribed with only the following:
"John Hass 1847-1915" The word FATHER and a cross. It is located in a
Brandsasse plot. Brandsasse is an old area name.
Cemetery records show an interrment date of 5 April 1915 for this John Hass.
Immediately to the left of Hass's stone is one that has the following: "MOTHER
1850-1930" There is a cross on it too, but oddly, no name. According to Cem.
records this is the grave of Bernadina Hass. I suspect her maiden name was Brandsasse.
She was interred 22 Feb. 1930.
Within the plot of 10 graves, there are 5 Brandsasse (not including Bernadina), 2 Weber,
and 1 Remke graves. The oldest Brandsasse graves may be brothers or uncles? One of the
stones is in german, the others in English.
There were no Reis stones within this plot. However, Reis is another old name within the
area and a generally wealthy one at that. I suspect that John's first wife, if indeed
this is the correct John Hass, is buried elsewhere, either at St.Joseph or another
cemetery. The Reis families were not all Catholic.
As I say, if you want me to send you photos, I can do that tomorrow. It is supposed to be
nice still then. Let me know.
