I am looking for information on my GGGrandfather William W. Woods
I have traced him back and have found his marriage cert. in 1899 (Gallatin Illinois) when
he married his second wife Carrie E. Mattingly. He list's his place of birth as
Evansville ind. his age at marriage is 31 and his occupation as a pilot in St.Louis, MO.
He lists his Fathers name as William W. Woods and mother's maiden name as Elizabeth
Watson. my GGrandfather was William L.Woods and here is his obit
William Lawrence Woods, 51, prominent Cave City automobile dealer and political leader,
died unexpectedly of a heart attack Friday afternoon about 2:30 o'clock at the Green
River Ferry in Mammoth Cave National Park. He was watching his son, Billy Woods, launch a
boat in Green River when he was stricken. He died a few minutes later. A native of
Shawneetown, Ill., he was born May 20 1901, and he was a son of Mrs. Carolyn Mattingly
Woods Hosman, who now makes her home in Cave City, and the late William Woods. He had
resided in Mayfield and Morganfield before moving to Cave City, about nine years ago,
where he established the Woods Chevrolet Company. He also held other extnsive business and
property interests in Cave City. A staunch Democrat, Mr. Woods had been active in party
circles and held a wide acquaintance among party political leaders throughout the state.
Known as a generous contributor to worthy causes, he was a member of the Baptist Church.

is son and mother, are his widow, Mrs. Juliet (Jettie Sue McKeaig) Woods, and another
son, Johnny Woods, Big Bend Texas. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2
o'clock at the Cave City Christian Church with the Rev. Paul Reece, Louisville,
assisted by the pastor, the Rev. Keith Hutchings, officiating. Interment was in the Cave
City cemetery. Active Pallbearers were Rhea G. Carroll and James Ferguson, both of Cave
City, Cecil C. Wilson, Glasgow, H.S. Sanborn, Mammoth Cave, Lt. Gov. Emerson (Doc)
Beauchamp, Kerney Cole and Attorney General J. D. Buckman, all of Frankfort, and A. G.
Mason of Morganfield.
