Hello Shuri,
Thank you so much for posting a reply to my query. I tried to post back on
the board earlier, but it froze up. Now I got it to work.
I have wondered about the Lassig family from the LaCrosse area. I even
have collected a few things in regard to them, trying to find if they are
related to me. I still don't know, but do not rule it out completely.
I do know that in Germany, my great grandfather's name was spelled Lassig
with an umlaut over the 'a' which would make it Laessig in English.
However some did not choose to add the 'e' when coming to America.
Do you know where in Germany Erdman Lassig was born? Or his parents names?
Do you have any information on his arrival in America?
I have information on Julius Lassig who lived in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. I
see that Henry Julius is a son of Erdman... families would repeat the
names. I will have to locate the information that I have and compare.
I do know for sure now that my great grandfather Edward Laessig came to
America with his brother Robert. Edward went to Chicago and Robert to St.
Louis Missouri 1855. Edward later moved to the Green Bay area of Wisconsin
where his wife's family settled. They might have had relatives here, in
America, before they decided to come here. I don't know yet. Erdman was a
generation younger, and may have been their nephew, or a cousin.
I am so happy to learn that someone is working on this family! I have been
in contact with many Laessig families in trying to find my own roots. I
too have collected a lot of information on the descendants of my great
grandfather. I don't have them all yet! Most of the missing descendants lived in the
Milwaukee area.
I find it so interesting that the names you list are so common in my
Laessig family too. "Edward Frank" for example. My grandfather's name was
Frank, and his father Edward...
Please keep in contact.
