There is a Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery off Cypress Dale Road over in Union Township
The cemetery book says St. Agnes has the records for this cemetery and the church that
used to stand here.
The earliest tombstones there are from the 1870's. A lot of Schenks are buried there.
From History of Vanderburgh County, Indiana by Brant-Fuller c. 1889 says:
"About fifteen years ago a neat frame church 25 x 15 feet and comfortably
furnished, was built on section 16, on the old Sirkle farm, by the Catholics of that
neighborhood. There were about fifteen families under charge of Father Sondermann,
and services were held regularly, though in late years the congregation has been
without a priest. The membership is not large, but efforts are now being made to have
frequent service and to build up the church. Joseph Schenck, Adam Schenck and
Andrew Hoppe have been among the faithful and influential supporters of this
church. The church was dedicated to the Sacred Heart and blessed in June 1874
by Rev. P. McDermott, of Evansville.
The book doesn't mention any Catholic Churches in Perry Township.
Yes, you are right about the old Catholic Cemetery and moving to a new cemetery.

St. Boniface was built abt 1880-1882, my gg grandmother's funeral
(Maria Katharina Jann Zuber) was at St. Boniface in the fall of 1882. She was buried at
St. Joseph (Mesker Park DR). I think there is a web site of the Catholic Churches in
Evansville and their dates, but I don't have it. Holy Trinity, was more or less
downtown (near the old L&N depot and many of the German Catholics who lived in the
Lamasco area (the west side) went there. My g grandfather and his first wife were
married in Holy Trinity in the late 1850's. I think St. Boniface may have been
the first chuch to open that was actually on the west side. Howell is a bit past the west
side-- west of St. Joe Avenue.
Chris, if I am wrong on any of this info-- please correct me and put it on the Vander
list as I am sure others would like to know. I think there was one common Catholic
burial ground in the 1850's to about 1875, and that was adjacent to St. Joseph Church
which is on E. Virginia St. Before 1850, there may have been one downtown, I am
not certain. When St. Joe opened about 1875 or so, the Catholics buried on VA st.
were disinterred and buried at St. Joseph. There were many at the old cemetery that
didn't have a marker-- putting a tombstone up wasn't too high a priority back
then. The graves which were unmarked were put in a common grave in St. Joe near the
entrance-- the statue of St. Joseph is in the area where the unmarked graves are. A
couple of summers ago, the people who work in their office building by the gate told me
that. The people there are very helpful. Hope this helps.
