I grew up in Evansville and after living away for a few years, returned for a short while.
The hospital became the
Evansville State Hospital and I worked there from 7/62 - 8/65 as a head nurse. I
haven't done any genealogical research at the hospital (I now live in Ohio), but do
know that there was a cemetery on grounds. Please use this link to view the Selzers who
are buried at Oak Hill Cemetery. None are buried at the Locust Hill Cemetery. George,
George, Jr and many others are buried there. You can find the dates of birth, death,
location of cemetery. For example: Minnie Selzer - Burial #12401, section 20, lot 47,
grave 2, DIA C24, place of death 14 Lincoln Ave., age 29, date of death 5/15/1888, date of
interment 5/15/1888, sex female, place of birth Indiana, Cause of death Scarlet fever
(hence the burial on same date of death), race white, undertaker R. Smith, social state
married. Also buried in the same section is Anna,Edward, Estall, George Jr., and George
Sr.. These are all adjoining graves, so obviously a family plot. Minnie died at age 29 in
1888 and Anna died in 1897 !
at the age of 40. You can study all of these at leisure and have some time lines to work
with. The current address of Evansville State is
Evansville State Hospital
Address: 3400 Lincoln Ave, Evansville, IN 47714
Phone: (812) 469-6800
You could write them and explain that you're a direct descendant and would like some
genealogical information. I do not know how much help they are willing to give. Let me
know if I can be of further help.
