Subject: [NS-L] Census Spreadsheet Available
2 weeks ago I finished a project to create a spreadsheet to organize
all of
my U.S. federal census data accumulated over the years. I posted notices
on
several lists to offer a free copy to anyone who wanted one. The
response
was incredible!
To date I have e-mailed over 800 copies. The load was so heavy that I put
up a website to allow anyone to download a copy. In 6 days the site has
over 13,000 hits.
I knew I was tired of having my census data on paper, scattered and
disorganized, but I had no idea so many others were in the same situation.
Yesterday I finished a Canadian version which is ready for download. It
covers the 1851-1901 censuses.
The U.S. and Canadian spreadsheets were created in Microsoft Excel and to
use it you will need a spreadsheet program at least as recent.
If you come around my spreadsheet website at
http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~minder/ you can see some screen shots of the
spreadsheet, read a Frequently Asked Questions page, get information on
what
specific spreadsheet programs work and which don't...and download
a copy.
