Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
But the obit was published in the Aug 20 edition of the Evansville
paper and the index says he died 2 days earlier.
The obit merely states he died "yesterday morning". It correctly
states his age as 37.
If the index is only from obits, it seems unusual that 2 errors would
be made reading this particular obit.
As he was under continuous medical care in a facility, it also seems
strange that a coroner would make 2 mistakes on the death certificate.
But that's also assuming that Browning actually used the certificate
instead of the published obit.
If someone knows a person who looks after the index, it should be
pointed that this particular index is in error.

Have been in contact with Willard and received some newspaper copies
yesterday.
The paper says he was taken to the Gilbert Sanitarium. I don't know if
that fits in to the Evansville name as I simply said he was taken to a
sanitarium in Evansville.
If the other hospital was closer it may be because of his smashed
lower legs or the fact they looked at him as a non-resident that he
was directed elsewhere.
Perhaps more expertise was available where he was directed

JK,
I think there is a lot of good info in Helen's reply. Nothing much in
genealogy can be taken as totally accurate.
In this case we don't know if some family or helpers came to Mt. Vernon
or Evansville with Mr. Cassel, so we don't know from the information you
have who was the informant on the death cert. Most likely it was someone
who did not access an accurate birth record, if one existed, and maybe
did not even know the exact time of death or was in shock from the accident.
The death cert could have been transcribed wrong, or could have the
wrong death date. Same with the age. I would take steps to obtain a copy
of the death certificate, since you have a location and a date, and look
for the informant and other information.

Browning home page says it is an index of the local newspaper obits.
Many early obits only said they died, no dates, so the only date would
be the date of the newspaper, which may be a day or two after actual
death date. Since this is not a primary source I document the death date
source as Browning file and understand it may have a day or two error.
If I have more than one date, each gets entered with proper sources.
Death certificates can have the same problem if some dies before
midnight and doctor/corner does not see them until next morning.

I had a similar experience recently. I believe they might have changed
the name for the web page, as when I did a Google search I had no
trouble locating it.
Here is the link I put on my Resources Online page:

Clarie Clifford Welch was supposed to have been struck by lightening and killed in a town called Job, Ohio in 1901. Has anyone ever heard of this place and can you tell me what county it is in? Everytime I try to Google Job, Ohio, I get all the jobs that are available in Ohio. So hopefully, knowing the county will help with this.

Just tried to check the Browning Funeral Home Records and couldn't find them anywhere.
While there is a link that claims the name but when you get there its something weird and not at all what you want.
Does anyone know what happened to the online records after Mr. Browning died?
Thanks
Ursula from Michigan

I recently received three news clippings describing how Charles Schaefer shot and killed his wife, Mary (Rieber) Schaefer in Evansville, and was then stabbed, but not fatally, by her brother Anton Rieber. The clippings do not have a date, but the content of the articles indicates the year is 1883.
One of the articles has the partial name Journal at the top of the page. Two others refer to Courier in the text of the articles.
I would like to know the exact date of death for Mary and any information available about what happened to the two men and their families. One researcher has July 16, 1883 for Mary's date of death, but does not have a source for the date.
Many thanks for anything you can add to this tragic story.

We do have newspapers on microfilm for this period, and I could do some searches
for you. Unfortunately, Vanderburgh County didn't begin keeping death records
until 1882, so there won't be a death record listing a cause. There may be other
resources, however.
Can you give me any more information on him; did he have family here? What
brought him to Evansville?

Can anyone tell me if Evansville has any records on the Civil War Soldiers who
died there in 1863? My uncle, James Campbell, died there of an illness in
August 1863. He is buried in his hometown, Salineville, Ohio. I was curious
about his death and the exact cause.
