looking for information connected with Opal Anspach. She has disappeared and don't know if she died before 1930 or married.
Opal was one of five children born to Eli Anspach and Gertrude Ingle. She was born in 1912 in Evansville. Other siblings were Georgia, Geneva, Lillian and a fourth who died in early childhood.
Opal and her three sisters are found on the 1920 census living with her aunt Lillian Ingle (Shipp) Sauer and Lillian's husband Walter. Her mother Gertrude had died in 1918 and her father was living in another household. Lily Sauer had raised Gertrude Ingle (last name aka Rose) in Gibson County when she was married to Bush Shipp.
By 1930 Opal is gone. In 1930 Opal's father Eli is living with his daughter Georgia Kingsbury along with Lillian and Geneva. I have not found a record of death or marriage for Opal.
Any help is appreciated.

Who do you contact for these State records?
Do you have their address or phone number, and what is the cost if any?
I will be getting records to join the DAR, and to verify the info for my genealogy.
Thanks, Sharon

Death records for 1900 or later are available through the Indiana State Dept of Health. I prefer them over the Vanderburgh County certificates because they are photocopies of the originals. The county version has typed the original handwritten information onto a more recent form and is not always accurate.

If you need something from Cook County, you might want to check out Ancestry's databases. I ordered a death certificate and received a copy of the original as soon as I paid. It depends on which year and what record, but checking out the database is worth it.

Yes, my experience has been that most county offices are very helpful (with the great exception of Chicago, Cook County). The health department suggested I contact Willard, which I did, to learn that they do not have the records on microfilm. So my hope lies with TSGS...

Thanks, Virginia for your commentsconcerning Marion County. Most places lean over backwards to help genealogists. Vanderburgh County has not always been that way. There was a period of time that they worked well with the community, Willard Library & TSGS. They would call to ask for more TSGS membership forms when they were running low. I have heard from 4-H kids doing the 4-H Genealogy Project that Vanderburgh County is becoming very restrictive and essentially discouraging them from getting information from them. There is a big difference between Law & Policy. I will inquire with them... not the clerks, I will talk to the boss!

While Willard Library is a great place to do research. They do not have death certificates for Vanderburgh County, IN. They do have the KY death certificates on microfilm from 1911 through 1959. In the state of Indiana one must go to the county to obtain the death certificates, or go to the State to get them. However, the state may not have ones that are old. It is worth a try. I was in Indy last year to obtain a death certificate... only because Marion County was county of death. They were easy to work with and when you said it was for genealogy and gave them your ID... that took care of it. They were pleasant and helpful.

I am President of the Tri-State Genealogical Society that meets at Willard Library in Evansville. I have heard of long-standing problems with the health department not being cooperative or helpful to family researchers. I will need to check with them to see just what the problem is all about... there are identy issues that they may be concerned about. I will make a report to you. This may be awhile before I have time to follow-up. John G. West

Message Board Post:
I just contacted the Evansville city health department to inquire about the costs of obtaining non-certified death certificates from late 1800's/early 1900's for genealogical purposes. I was told that they will no longer issue genealogical certificates and that I would not be eligible to receive even the expensive certified version as I am not a close relative. Is anyone aware of an alternate source for the actual death certificates (not the index)?
