Hi Group,
I've gotten almost all of the WPA Marriage Records books xeroxed, so we're
ready to kick off the project!!! All you need to do is send me the letters
you wish to transcribe! I'll mail you the copies by snail mail. After you
finish typing, all you do is send it back to me by email. You may keep the
xeroxed copies.
Because there are so many names, I'll be breaking down the alphabet into
much smaller chunks. You can find the volunteer link on the "What's New"
page (the small bell at the top of the page), in the marriage records pages,
and in this email.
If you're not finished typing some of our earlier projects, it's okay! Just
send that information in as soon as possible. If you have time to type more,
then volunteer to type some of these records when you finish! I need all of
the help I can get to have these records posted on line for everyone's FREE
use!

Thanks a million!!!!

Message Board Post:
Would someone check and see if the following marriage took place in Vanderburgh Co., IN please?
Louis Lunsford Burke (or L. L. Burke) married Margaret (Sullivan?) about 1852 or 1853 in (possibly Vanderburgh) Indiana.
Louis L. Burke's first wife, Elizabeth Huckeby, died in 1852 in Perry Co., IN.
I know that Louis Burke remarried after Elizabeth's death to a Margaret. I have been told that Margaret's maiden name was "Sullivan" and that she (Margaret Sullivan Burke) was the first woman to be admitted to the Washington, DC Press Gallery and other such honors. I don't know if this is the same Margaret. However, Louis and Margaret Burke did live in Washington, DC for many years after living Indiana.
One source on the internet stated that Margaret Sullivan Burke was born in Evansville, Indiana. Louis L. Burke was listed in the 1850 and 1860 census as living in Perry Co., IN, but he did have ties to Spencer Co., etc. Louis may have married Margaret in Vanderburgh, Spencer, or Perry counties, I don't know.
Louis L. Burke (c.1829-aft.1900) was listed as a widower in the 1900 Franklin Co., IN census. Margaret apparently died in the late 1890s.
Any information on Louis Lunsford Burke and/or Margaret Sullivan Burke would be really appreciated.
