Hi Nancy,
It is possible that your Joseph Federle is the same as the brother to my Elizabeth Federle/Fetterly. However, I have no information either way. These are the notes that I have on Elizabeth re: her family:\
!RESEARCH: This as my Elizabeth's father is an unproven working theory. Based on age he could be her father. In 1850 the family is at Spade's Station, Adams Twp, Ripley Co., Indiana the same as my Elizabeth. Need further research. The family is 4 pages from Elizabeth and Jacob Schreiner's in the 1860 census. Also according to census records Elizabeth states that her parents are from Baden as does Nickolas.
!CENSUS-FAMILY: 1860 U.S. Census, Ripley Co, Indiana; 1860; Spade's Station, Adams Twp. dated 4 Jun; line1-8, pg 96; Ancestry.com, printed copy in poss of Karen Benson. NOTE-RESIDENCE: Post Office Spades Station, Adams Twp. or Norris, dwelling 729 and family # 709. NOTE-FAMILY: Nickolas Fetterly age 47 a farmer with real estate valued at $1000 and a personal estate valued at $176. He was born in Baden. Barbara age 38 born Baden, Joseph age 16 a farmer born Indiana, Emily age 13 born Indiana, Madeline age 11 born Indiana, Mary A. age 8 born Indiana, Rufina age 6 born Indiana, Theresa age 2 born Indiana.
It is all very tenuous. Do you know if your Joseph had a sister named Elizabeth? Do you have information proving this link? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Karen Benson

Hello Karen,
I have just joined Ancestry.com although I have been researching my family tree for several years.
I am Nancy Federle Glorius, daughter of Alvin Joseph Federle, who is the son of William Charles Federle, who is the son of Joseph Federle. Joseph Federle was born in 1844, died in 1910 and was married to Frances Junker(1845-1928) and lived in Spades Indiana.
I was interested in your posting because I have not been able to get further back than Joseph Federle (my great grandfather).
Please respond as I think we may have information of interest to each other.
Nancy Federle Glorius

Yes, I agree with you the census info on the Orand/Oran/Oren families can be very confusing.
I believe that John W F Oran born 1866 and James Matthew
Oran born 1867 were cousins. I don't think they were first cousins. They would of also been brothers-in-law since James Matthew married John W F sister Serena Eller Oran.
The 1900 census of Caldwell Co., KY list James M. Oran born 1820 TN living in the household of his daughter Susan and her husband Gid Felker.
In your post regarding the 1880 census you state that Sarena E. Oren might be Susan E. Sarena's correct name is Serena Eller Oren/Oran. Lou D Oren/Oran was known as Dixie.
As I have stated the parents of James M. Oran 1820 and
W J C Oran have not been proven. I believe that W J C Oran
might be the son of Joseph Orrand and Rachel Miller.
There is a 2 year old Matt that is living in the household
of a John and Mary Orrand in the 1870 census of Wilson Co. TN. The ages of the parents are close to James M. Oran and Mary Elizabeth Tribble Oran, but there is older children named that is not on the 1880 census of Caldwell Co., Ky of the known household of James M. and Mary Elizabeth Tribble Oran.
These Oran/Orand/Orrand families can be found in Wilson Co. and Cannon Co., TN
GenForum has a lot of messages regarding the Orand/Orrand/Orin/Orren/Oran etc of TN, KY and IN
that you will find interesting to read if you have not yet read them.

This may sound strange, but do you know for a fact that John and James were brothers and not cousins? The information in the census records is very conflicting. I thought perhaps that James was raised by an aunt and uncle after his parents died (can't find them in the 1900 census)I thought perhaps that WJC and the older James M Oran were brothers. The parents of John appear to be as follows:
