Suzanne,
I had to review my message on the Vanderburgh board. The info you gave is familiar to me. A Leroy F. Kercher had a website called 'Bibliser-in-Amerika'. I did not succeed in reaching him the last time I tried. He followed all descendants of Michael - but had erred in getting the correct Regina Roth who married my husband's great grandfather, (August) Valentine Hormuth. Both Roth families had a daughter named Regina. Kercher also had the name of Michael Ritzert's grandparents as Gallus Ritzert and Katharina Roth.

Michael Ritzert emigrated from Biblis, Darmstadt Hesse in 1847. He was born Jan 7, 1801 married Nov 10, 1823 and died June 3, 1861. He had a farm in Marrs Twp., Posey Co., IN. His father was Johann Phillipp Ritzert, his mother, Gertrude Herman. Michael & Appalonia Schwager had 9 children. Two daughters married Roths. Appalonia married Vincennes and Elisabeth born Aug 15, 1835 married John Roth. In the 1860 census these two Roths lived next door to each other.
I figured this out-- go to http://www.glorecords.blm.gov and click on the "search land patents" at the top. It is under the title General Land Office Records. You will then have to put your zip, and it will take you to a page where you enter as much as you know. It does not do a syntax search, so however your ancestor's name was spelled, that is what will turn up. Helen Zuber Keusch
Contact Willard Library and talk to the head librarian, Lyn. Willard
might have land records. But you may have to have someone in the
recorder's office check for you. There is a site-- Bureau of Land
Management-- http:// www.glorecords.blm.gov that used to have all
this on it. You could enter a name, and actually put up the transcript
your ancestor signed. I just visited it to tell you how it works, but
they have redone this site. Can someone out there tell me how to find
these records online? Or were they removed? Helen Zuber Keusch

You didn't give any time elements so it's hard to know what is connected to
what you're interested in. In 1860, I find a John Nurre, son of Barney and
Margaretta Nurre. If you could give me any middle initials (There are John
B and John W names) and approximate dates of birth, I will research it for you.

Have you tried searching for Land Records on your ancestor? You can order
Microfilm records from your Local Family History Center. Go to
Familysearch.org, once there click on Search the Library Catalog. Do a place search. Type
in to top box, the word Vanderburgh and hit enter. It will bring up a page
of different places with that name, click the one you want, it will then give
you a list of all the records they have available at the Family History
Center, for that area. Check what they may have on Land Records/Land Deeds/
Court Records.

Hi, I am looking for information on a John Nurre who was probably born
in Evansville IN and moved with his children to Chicago. He probably
also had a connection to Cincinnati, OH as well as Evansville, IN. I am
trying to determine a connection to Joseph Bernard and Benardina (Macke)
Nurre who were from Prussia but raised their family in Evansville, IN.
Thanks,
Mike

Dear Lists; while researching my GGgrandaunt Bernadina Macke Nurre, I
collected a number of assorted Nurre records. I am posting these to the
Vanderburgh County, IN and Hamilton County, OH lists since the Nurres
were prominent in both areas. Perhaps they will be helpful to someone.

I am trying to help a Zuber (no relation to my lines) who is wanting info on his ancestors-- Henry and Rudolph Zuber (brothers). They were either members of an Evansgelical-Reform or Lutheran Church. I have found their mother, Louisa Kahre remarried a Fred Resbitter about 1862 and had another family. I have found a Henry Kahre (b. abt 1805) and wife Caroline, and a Resbitter daughter was in the household in 1880. I think Louisa and Fred may have died by 1880. I am trying to find the Zuber she was married to and what happened to them. The Kahre line came from Prussia. I cannot find Henry and Rudolph in 1860, both were under six, and listed themselves as born in IN in most of the censuses. I know census records are not set in stone as the census taker often wrote what he heard the non English speaking people say. Thanks for any help. Helen Zuber Keusch

You have her birth date and the place of birth. I suggest you go to Gibson
Co. for the answer. You have two choices. You can join the Gibson Co., IN
list or you can go to www.raogk.org and look for the volunteer for Gibson
Co. They can do the look-up and are only permitted to charge for
copying/mailing costs. I searched the 1830 census and the only Hawkins in
Gibson Co. at that time was Henry Hawkins. He is still listed in 1850
census as follows: Gibson is to the north of Vanderburgh Co., and it would
not be unusual for couples to go to Vanderburgh to get married.

Spouse 2: Montgomery, Smith
Marriage Date: 04 Sep 1833

Of course, I should have realized that you live in England. Forgive me for not picking up on that. Actually, you're talking about two different states. You will need to try the Erie, New York list. (unless a branch moved to Indiana. Did they?) However, you can still try to get someone from www.raogk.org to do some look-ups for you. Again, let me know if you want the images. I can send them as .jpg files.
