I want to thank all of you again for sending the 1900 census information for my husband's Carter family in Vanderburgh county that I have pasted some of below.
Now that I have looked over it more carefully I am finding some puzzling information. To start with for James David Carter and Mary E. Mix the census info states that they had been married for 35 years and I know that that couldn't be correct so I though maybe the transcriber made a typo but as I reviewed the information that I have for James and family I think that the 35 years married had to be for Mary E. Mix first marriage to George W. Wyant. They were married in Vanderburgh county 14 Aug 1865 so that makes the 35 years. Stranger things have happened on the census records.
I have James David Carter living with his widowed mother in the 1870 census in Pike county were his father died in 1864 so he and Mary couldn't have been married by then.
Now for a new request. I have a note from the Vanderburgh Marriage index 1846-1920 for a James Carter marring Mary E Vine May 18, 1880 bk 10 pg 458. I think this "VINE" is an unfortunate transcription of MIX because all the other information fits our James and Mary.
Can someone tell me if there are films or other media available of the original records that might clear up this mystery? I have never been able to find those records and would really appreciate any help anyone can give.

Looking for DETAILED obituary of
Jacob Moll / Moell / Moall
who died 7th Oct. 1878 in Evansville/Howell area.
I need to know more. He is buried at St. Paul's Methodist Church
in Marrs township on Phillips Rd
in Posey county. It looks like his birth date is 16 December 1795
somewhere in Germany. I do not
know who his wife was. He had about 7 children. Some born in
Germany some in Indiana.
Jacob Moell bought land in Dec. of 1837. He and his family are
listed in the 1840
Vanderburgh co. Census.. so it appears his wife died between 1842 and
1850.
How do I find an obituary or information that will tell me what city
he was from in Germany??
Vielen Danke,
J
Thank you Rebecca for your help. This is just great. My husband's grandmother's name sure was spelled funny but with the census that happened a lot. Her name was Myrtle W. CARTER.
Thanks again, Martha

Subject: [INVANDER] Carter in Vanderburgh county
My husband's great grandmother was Eleanor G. HAWKINS Carter who died in Evansville in 1900. I have transcribed her obituary below and need some help with finding her children that the obit says were in Evansville in 1900.
I would like to see the 1900 census or maybe even City Directories if they were in existence for Evansville at that time. The names that might have been in Evansville at the time are Amanda CARTER and her husband Patrick KELLY, Elizabeth CARTER and her husband Stephen S. HARVEY, James David CARTER and his wife Mary Elizabeth MIX., and maybe Sarah Alice CARTER. There are two older sisters but I don't think they ever lived in Evansville.
Any help or direction that anyone can offer will be greatly appreciated.
