Looking for a female "McNeely" that married a George Felker, location unknown, possibly Missouri. These may be the parents of Stella Felker, reported in the White Children's Home, Evansville, in the 1900 census. The names are listed on Stella's marriage record, Marion Co. 1903. I believe that Stella must have had some family in the area, either McNeely or Felker. Any insight would be appreciated.

Thank you for the info. I'm sorry to hear that your Felkers are a tough family to trace. Mine have been. I did find Stella's marriage record to Alonzo Healy in Marion Co., IN 1903. While married, they had my grandmother, Delores, but were divorced before 1910. Delores was raised by Alonzo's sister and her husband. The marriage record of Stella states her father was George and mother was a McNeely. Stella's death certificate lists her parents as unknown. I have spent much time researching the George Felkers around 1900 to 1910. The ones in Indiana do not seem to fit. I believe my line originated in Bullit co. KY with Henry Jacob Felker and Jemima Chappel. I found Stella listed in the 1910 census living as a niece, single instead of divorced , with Oscar and Margaret Felker Chapel in Sullivan Co. MO. Oscar and Margaret were cousins and Margaret had a brother George W. with a wife Margaret M. The "M" seems to be consistent with "McNeely" but I have found no marrige !
record. I have heard that the children's home in Evansville kept "troubled children" as well as orphans. I have also heard that they are most likely reluctant to give out information, although, its been so long ago I don't know why. Do you have any information as to where they are located, if they still exist, etc. so that I can write for information?

I cannot help you with Stella, except to tell you that Stella and Willie were not siblings. This was the white orphanage, and all listed were considered orphans at that time. Willie, as listed, was William Felker and had siblings Pauline, Minnie and Katherine. The girls all lived with families so they are not listed there. Willie was my Father, and I knew only a little about the home. He never mentioned Stella, but did eventually meet his sisters when he "graduated" from the home. The parents of Willie and his sisters were William C. Felker and Caroline Schaad, both born in Germany. That is all that I know of the parents, except for the Schaad father of Caroline. Hope this helps a little as it eliminates the sibling connection with Willie. Could use some help on my Felker genealogy, too. I understand my grandfather was an alcoholic and deserted the family when his wife died when my dad was but 1 yr old.
