I am looking for any information about my Great Grandfather that I can find. I would especially like to know about his parents. He lived in Evansville Indiana when my Grandfather was born (1896). I believe George was born in 1856 - possibly in Germany. During my research I discovered my Grandfather had 2 brothers that were never mentioned in my family so I am wondering if they are from a different marriage). My Great Grandmother was Anna Weinheimer. The family story was that George owned a grocery store and that Anna died of Appendicitis. The 2 children I know of were raised by an Aunt Minnie. Everyone on that side of the family is gone so I have no one to ask the details. If anyone in Indiana can help I wold appreciate it. All I know for sure is that George died Feb 27, 1920.
If you go to www.willard.lib.in.us and then search their catalog, it will give you a listing of books of any church records they may have.

I live in the Pittsburgh, PA area and have been researching my HARTMAN family.
My great great great Grandfather shows on the 1850 US Census living in Allegheny City (present day North Side of Pittsburgh)
HARTMAN
John HEAD age 51 (born 1799) born Germany (great great great grandfather)
Elizabeth WIFE age 46 born Germany

Adam (son) age 20 born Germany
Matthew (son) age 14 born Germany
Frederick (son) age 12 born Germany
John (son) age 8 born Germany
Elizabeth (age 4) born Pennsylvania
Sometime in 1850 George (eldest son) marries and moves to Indiana
His family shows in the 1860 US Census Pigeon Township City of Evansville Vandenburg County
George (head) 33 Wagon Maker Born Hessia (Germany) (great great grandfather)
Maria (wife) 24 born Prussia (Germany)
George (son) 9 born Indiana (MY GREAT GRANDFATHER)
Christian (son) 7 born Indiana
Elizabeth (daughter) 6 born Indiana
Maria (daughter) 3 born Indiana
Johannes (John) (son) 1 born Indiana
This family was LUTHERAN and I am trying to figure out what church there would be in this area that they would have went to. So that I may possibly contact them for any possible records that might exist? I know that this may be impossible but maybe someone in your list might give me a clue.
The Hartmans in my family were great for jumping back and forth between Pittsburgh and the Evansville, IN area between the 1850s and 1900s. George is the 1860s grows up and marries by 1880 and is living on Pittsburgh's South Side (age 29) married to a Schael (Siedel).
I have traced this Hartman family in Indiana from 1860s into the 1900s (most of them are gone but Maria is still living and is in her 60s)
If anyone could help me with any leads I would greatly appreciate it. Right now I am looking for possible Church records. I have someone that will be going to Germany shortly. What I am looking for is the name of the city/town/village that they were from in Germany from possible birth or marriage records.
Thanks so much

Can anyone tell me what the V.Co. Almshouse was and where I can access records for 1910?
Also, where could I locate records for Canal Street School, which became Wheeler School @ 3rd & Cherry, and Carpenter School on Carpenter Street. These were grade schools. I'm trying to locate 1870-1890 records for my relatives, the Rust family.
When Leland K. Rust's mother, Mary E. Rust, died 30 Sep 1886, Leland doesn't show up on census anymore. Next thing, he's Leland Rust Monroe, my ggrandfather. I'm trying to find out how his name change came about. Thank you.

I found this in an Antique Store in Cadiz, KY today and thought i'd share it.
It says "1879 Evansville Indiana Freemans" on the back and it also has what looks like "This is Coras" on it.
Enjoy!

Henderson is directly across the river from Evansville (Vanderburgh
Co.) Warrick abuts Vanderburgh to the east. I suggest that you find a
volunteer from Warrick Co. to do some look-ups for you. There could be
more information on the marriage record (such as parents, etc.) Go to this
site: www.raogk.org You will then click on the state and county that you
want look-ups for. Although my roots are in Vanderburgh and Warrick Co.,
I now reside in Ohio and so am not able to do any "hands on" for you. The
volunteers are not permitted to charge other than for postage and costs for
hard copies.

MaryJane,
Yes this is my Joseph Lane and Polly. The time line is abnout right for
Nathaniel and Polly. I have never heard of that last name for her. I do know
the Hart's lived in Henderson Co., KY but that is just across the river to
Warrick Co., IN right? I would be very interested in finding out if that truely
is them. Nathaniel's parent's were John Hart and Patience Lane who resided
in Henderson Co., KY. John died and left a will in Henderson Co., KY in 16
Oct. 1821. Here is John's will. The Polly mentioned in this will is not my
Polly, he had a daughter named Mary (Polly) Hart. Of course Nathaniel died
abt. 1820, that is why he is not mentioned in the will.

Hi All,
My name is Heather, I currently live in GA. First of all I want those to
know who all live in Vanderburgh County area my prayers and thoughts are with
you through this difficult time from the Tornado.
My ancestors who came to Vanderburgh Co., IN. were the Lanes. My third
Great grandfather was General Joseph Lane, he left Henderson Co., when he was
about 15/16 years old and got a job in Warrick Co, later the area he settled in
became known as Vanderburgh Co., IN. He was the son of John Lane and
Elizabeth Street, they came to Vanderburgh County a couple years or so later after
Joseph did.
Joseph Lane married Polly (Mary) ______ Hart, from age of 12 years of age
she was raised by John Hart and Patience Lane who lived in Henderson County,
KY. Polly witnessed her parents and siblings being massacred, and she escaped
in a canoe and floated down the Ohio River, and landed on the bank's of John
Hart's property. And thus the Harts raised her. Family lore says she had
one brother who also escaped but I don't have his name, I don't even know her
maiden name. Her father died when she was young and her mother remarried to a
French man, his first name was Pierre, this is all I know on her family.
Polly did first marry the oldest son of John Hart, named Nathaniel Hart, he
died a couple years after they were married and then she married Joseph Lane.
Joseph was the nephew to Patience Lane who married John Hart.
If any of this sounds familiar to anyone please let me know. Joseph Lane
had 10 children, I descend from his daughter Winifred Lane who later married
LaFayette Mosher. Joseph was on the Indiana Legislator for 20 years, he then
served in Mexican American War and became a Brigade General. After the war
Pres. Polk called him to become the first Territorial Gov. Of Oregon, which he
did. He later was an Indian Agent, and fought in the Rouge River Indian Wars
in Oregon. Later he ran on the Breckinridge Ticket against Abraham Lincoln,
of course you all know who one. LOL!
I would love to find out where the Lanes had property in Vanderburgh Co.,
IN. I was up there in 2001 but didn't have a chance to go through the court
records.
Thanks for listening,
Heather W. Bowers
