I found Gertrude's maiden name and her mother:
Mary M. Dury (not drury--I notice a lot of typo's in the obit's!). Died 04/18/1944 at 79 years. Daughters: Mrs. Bena H ollander (that's how they have it typed not sure if it is Hollander or Ollander and the H is a middle initial or not), Mrs. Mayme Blake, Mrs. Rose Stumf. FOSTER DAUGHTER: Joan Knight. Brother: Ben Barwe. Sisters: Ann Mundo, Rose Reine, Lizzie Barwe, and Bena Stola.
Sorry to be typing so many posts, but I am typing and sharing my research. This answered a lot of question's for me!

I think I found her sister's obit. Name is Mrs. Mayme Blake.
Died 12-12-1977 at 87 years. Ss: John and Gertrude Home of Aged. It says something about St. Boniface?
Husb: Nola died 1950. Son: Clarence E. Blake (Evlle Auctioneer). 2 Daughters: Mrs. Mary Bennett, Evlle and Mrs. Ardith Cebula, Prairie Village, KS.
Now, what is Gertrude's maiden name? Is is Rose, or was that her mother's name? Drury sounds like Gerturde's married name.

There is a lot that is not understood by me. Why was Gertrude buried "MRS." Gertrude Drury, if she was married to Carnahan? If she was Mrs. Gertrude Drury, then Drury is not her maiden name. What is Gertrude's maiden name? Rose/Mayme looks like her mother. It looks like Rose/Mayme was 20 years old when she had Gertrude. Gertrude was married, supposedly, several times. Did she get actual divorces? In the obituary for Carnahan, it states his wife committed suicide 3 weeks prior to his death. In her obituary (his wife's), it stated she shot herself 5 months prior to his death. Both were killed by suicide and with a gun. What happened to Joan? What is Joan's last name?

I am trying to find out the order of marraiges for Gertrude Blake Drury: I do know that Schultz was the third husband and that Sam Lockwood married her in California and that he brought his daughter and wife to visit his family in Philadelphia, PA. My understanding is that Sam was hus band #4. I can find no marraige record for Alvah Carnahan and Gertrude Drury anywhere. Was Rose Blake her mother?

The same people who do the Browning Funeral Home Obituary
Index,
http://browning.evcpl.lib.in.us/
has a Local History Database here:
http://local.evpl.org/
This is where the article was.
It is a partial index to people, business, places, etc... that
have appeared in the Evansville newspapers. It also
contains high school yearbook photos dating back to the 40's
or earlier. Lots of odds and ends too.
The Evansville Library also has an article index to the
Evansville Courier that dates back to mid-1991. You need
to have an Evansville Library card to access it though.
Other large libraries might have access to it.

Here is an article that briefly mentions his crash in August 1978
http://local.evpl.org/views/viewimage.asp?ID=665962
It appears that he died in Vanderburgh County.
He doesn't turn up in the Browning Funeral Home Obit
index, that indicates that an obituary did not appear in
the Evansville area newspapers. His obit could be found
in the newspapers of the town he lived in before coming to
Evansville or where his next of kin lived.
You can request a death certificate for him here:
http://vchd.evvindiana.org/deathapp.html
or here
http://vchd.evvindiana.org/
It will say where he is buried.
If he dosen't turn up in Vanderburgh County, try Gibson
County it is the next county north of Vanderburgh Co.
The Evansville Newspapers are also available on microfilm
for August 1978.
