I recently found the following information regarding Cleopha Laugel Herman. In the 1900 census of Knox Co., IN she is listed as being born 10/1834 and as having had 5 children, 1 of whom was living. She is listed as an aunt-in-law of William Wendling. This would mean she was the aunt of William's wife, Anna Heitz Wendling. Anna was the daughter of Salome Laugel and Anton Heitz. Salome was born 6/1837 and died prior to the 1920 census. At the present time I am not sure who the parents of Cleopha Laugel Herman and Salome Laugel Heitz are. I originally had Salome as the dau. of a John Laugel b. 1844, but this is impossible since Salome and Cleopha were born in the 1830's. Perhaps they were half sisters of John b. 1844.
Do you have any information on the children of Cleopha Laugel Herman?
Mary Thibaut.

I am searching for information on Mabel and Harry Lenfers.
They would be the children from my grandfathers first marriage. My grandfather I believe was Charles E. Lenfers.
He had lived in Evansville, Indiana before moving to Iowa and
Missouri at which time he changed his name to Rockett.
Anyone with any information on Mabel and Harry, please
contact me.
Thanks

I have reason to believe that Charles E. Lenfers was my grandfather. He was born in 1870 - 1875. He was the son of Federick and Elizabeth Lenfers. I was told he had left Indiana after getting into some trouble. I was also told he had been married before and had two children by this woman.
The children were Mabel and Harry. I would assume they had the last name of LENFERS . After my grandfather left Indiana he came to Iowa and later moved to Missouri, and took the name of John Rockett.
I would appreciate any help anyone could give me on information of Mabel and Harry.
Thanks
Linda

Thank you for posting the death information. It took a lot of work to do so.
I hope that anyone who is trying to obtain a marriage record from the Clerk
of Courts in Vanderburgh Co. is able to wait a very long time to have the
order filled. I sent for marriage records on February 14, 2003. I called and
talked with the clerk on several different occasions and received as many
reasons why the order wasn't filled. The last time, she indicated that she
could send the letter back. In April, I received a card from the Clerk of
Courts indicating that it would be at least 90 days to fill the order. So, I
called the Willard library and they do have the marriage records with the
volume number and page on line. With this information you can order the
certificates through them. They have the name of a person that is willing to
look up the information. She charges $10. per hour and $1.00 per copy. So, I
will cancel my order with the Clerk of Courts and go through the Willard
Library. Roberta

from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)--issue of Thursday, January 30, 1919--page 1, column 3:
WOMAN FOUND DEAD ON VANDALIA ROAD
Supposed to Have Raised Car Window and Jumped
The lifeless body of Mrs. Marion Legler, of Evansville, was found Tuesday morning by the crew of a freight train on the Vandalia road, near Plainfield.
Mrs. Legler had been a patient in an Indianapolis sanitarium and was being taken home, accompanied by her husband and a nurse. Mrs. Legler had retired, and it is not known how the tragedy occurred, but it is thought that she raised a window in her berth and jumped out. Her husband and nurse did not miss her until the train reach [sic] Terre Haute.
A note was found by the porter. It was unsigned, but detailed what she wanted done with certain property. Mrs. Legler was of a prominent family at Evansville. Her husband was auditor of the county for two years, was representative in the legislature for two terms, and is now connected with an Evansville bank. Several children survive the mother.

I am looking for the father of James T. Hanrahan, born May of 1874 in IN. He married a Mary Heidenreich in 1894 chicago, possibly a second marriage. I came across 1880 census information that possibly links a Patrick Hanrahan born in IRE in 1851 to him. The census also gives wife Mary Hanrahan born in IRE in 1855, and their four (at the time, not sure if they had more later) children. Unfortunately that's all the information I have on this Patrick Hanrahan. Please advise if this sounds like it has links to your family tree.
Thanks!

Dear Lois,
I never saw the reply dated Dec. 2001 How really wonderful is that also you? If so how is your husband related to Henry Bateman Smythe? I recently discovered that Nathan Rowley the father of Mary Louisa Rowley came from PA and might have had an ancestor named Henry Bateman Rowley. I do not know Nathan's wife's name nor where married. I need to go back and organize my info....sound familiar? I tend to jump from one line to another when I get bored or deadended! Keep in touch. Susan Dudgeon apparently married Thomas Smythe, Sr. Both are said to have originated from Northern Ireland, Moneghan. Don't know if married or single or port of entry or what other states lived in prior to Indiana. Thanks again, Jill
